कहावत है, “अंधे की मक्खियाँ राम उड़ावे.” दो मुसलमान किशोरियाँ अपने परिवारों से बिछुड़ गई. ऐसे भी बदनसीब थे जिनके अपने सभी मारे गए. इन निरीह प्राणियों ने ले दे कर भरपूर जीवन जीया क्योंकि मरना मना था, इस उपन्यास का केन्द्र बिंदु है.
