In Uttar Pradesh, Women Drench BJP Leader in Mud Hoping for Rain

In Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, extreme heat and the lack of rainfall have left locals and crops suffering. Fearing a possible drought, women in Nautanwa town revived an old tradition in hopes of bringing rain.

According to local beliefs, drenching a respected village leader in mud and water can appease the rain god, Indra Dev. Acting on this, a group of women from the area visited the residence of former Nagar Palika Chairman and BJP leader Guddu Khan, singing traditional Kajri songs. They tied his hands and feet, gently laid him on the ground, and poured mud and water over him while continuing to sing.

The ritual, though unusual, was done with devotion and cultural belief, aiming to bring relief from the intense heat through divine intervention. Videos of the event have since gone viral, sparking a mix of amusement and debate on social media.
