Edition 65 | Out Now

From carefully curated feeds in the first year (hello, CPM35 filter!) to casual photo dumps by fourth year, we’ve come full circle. Just like how the Y2K era’s cyber-grunge aesthetic was replaced by minimalism, only to return with a nostalgic twist, we’ve gone from perfectly polished to perfectly us.

And then, standing at convocation in our graduation robes, the magic of it all hits. The butterfly clip you thought was cringe in second year is now your lucky charm, and MicMac’s maggi, once traded for trendy cafés, is what you’ll miss the most.

In this 65th edition of DTU Times, we’re not just jumping on the Y2K bandwagon—we’re exploring how trends, like time itself, move in mysterious circles. We’re all living in our own version of Y2K, some experiences need to go out of fashion before we realise their timeless appeal, a quiet return to the memories that shaped us.

As you don your graduation robes, perhaps sporting those chunky sneakers that are somehow cool again, remember that like Y2K, college life isn’t about the apocalypse that never came—it’s about the revolution that did. Let’s not forget the beauty in looking back, in remembering who we were and who we’ve become. Appreciate the journey, and rock those platform shoes like it’s 1999 all over again.

Edition 65 | Out Now

Close your eyes and picture it—a world bathed in neon colours, dial-up tones, and chunky fashion. An era of frosted tips, metallic everything, and unapologetically bold trends—the very ones your older siblings once obsessed over and now cover our Instagram feeds. It’s funny how time works, isn’t it? Like a cosmic DJ replaying trends we thought were gone, these styles are back, like an old friend showing up unexpectedly, bringing with them memories long tucked away.

College life feels like its own cycle of rediscovery, a nostalgic magic wrapped up in small moments. Remember the first-year thrill of wearing your newly-acquired, incredibly prestigious society merchandise—peak first-year energy—feeling the pride of belonging? Fast forward a semester, and that shirt sits at the back of your closet, dismissed as “too mainstream.” But by final year, it comes out again—soft, a little faded, but worn with a newfound pride, much like Y2K fashion making its fierce return.

Remember scoffing at seniors who stressed over placements? “Not us,” we’d say, wrapped in our early ambitions. But here we are, scrolling through RM App, deadlines looming, suddenly understanding the same people we mocked. Like those Y2K apocalypse preppers—everyone laughed, but maybe they knew something we didn’t, about being ready for whatever comes next.
