Case History
Patient Information:
• Age: 2 years
• Gender: Male
Chief Complaint: The patient presented for a routine eye examination.
History of Present Illness:A 2-year-old male from Kazakhstan was brought in by his parents for a routine eye examination. The initial refraction measurements showed significant refractive errors:
• Right Eye (RE): +7.00 D
• Left Eye (LE): +5.00 D
Examination: To obtain a more accurate measurement of the refractive error, atropine eye ointment was administered to achieve cycloplegia. Following this, the refractive measurements were:
• Right Eye (RE): +9.00 D • Left Eye (LE): +7.00 D
Diagnosis: The patient was diagnosed with high hypermetropia in both eyes, with a more significant refractive error in the right eye.
Management Plan: Given the patient’s age and the high degree of hypermetropia, the following management plan was implemented:
1. Prescription of Corrective Lenses
2. Follow-Up: The patient was advised to return for a review after 3 months to monitor the refractive error and ensure the prescription is adequate and comfortable.
3. Amblyopia Prevention: Early detection and correction are crucial to prevent amblyopia and ensure the patient develops good visual acuity.
*Importance of Early Eye Examination*
This case underscores the significance of early eye examinations in children. Identifying and correcting refractive errors at an early age can prevent long-term visual problems, such as amblyopia, and help the child achieve better visual development. Regular eye check-ups are essential to catch any eye problems early and manage them effectively. 👁️ 👁️👁️ ✌️👀
