The much-awaited launch of Echoes of the Heart, a bilingual collection of short stories by Dr. Neeraja Jha Upadhyay, was held at the Civil Services Officers’ Institute (CSOI), Chanakyapuri. The event drew a gathering of literary admirers and was marked by the presence of esteemed guests and speakers.

The event was graced by celebrated literary figures including Prem Bhardwaj, Savita Jha, Shailendra Shail, and Sushil Bharti, who shared their reflections on the book and praised Dr. Upadhyay’s literary craft.

Dr. Neeraja Jha Upadhyay’s Echoes of the Heart is a rare bilingual offering—featuring short stories and poems in both English and Hindi. Through poignant storytelling and poetic prose, the book bridges linguistic and emotional landscapes, making it accessible and moving for a wide readership.

Noted writer Prem Bhardwaj lauded the unique bilingual format and expressed particular appreciation for the Smriti Patal Se series and The Return of the Native, describing them as deeply moving and brilliantly penned.

Renowned poet and critic Shailendra Shail praised the literary depth of the book and shared his admiration for the poem The Ultimate, calling it “a lyrical expression of spiritual introspection.”

Sushil Bharti, Director Broadcasting, Marwah studios commended Dr. Upadhyay’s exceptional ability to write seamlessly in Hindi and English. He also noted his pleasant surprise at the subtle inclusion of Urdu phrases, which added further richness to the text.

Savita Jha also shared her heartfelt thoughts with the guests, appreciating the book’s emotive strength and cultural resonance.

The evening concluded with a warm and elegant high tea reception, where guests engaged in literary conversation and celebrated the success of the author’s latest work.

ममता सोनी द्वारा रचित दादी का पाकिस्तान भारत के विभाजन पर आधारित एक दादी और उसकी पोती के बीच बने रिश्ते, उनके संवादों और प्रश्नोत्तरी पर केंद्रित एक अनूठा उपन्यास है। भारत के विभाजन पर अनेकों उपन्यास, कथाएं और कथानक लिखे गए हैं, कई टेलीविजन सीरियल भी बने हैं और अब ओटीटी पर भी उस कठिन समय पर बनी वेब सीरीज भी देखने को मिल रही हैं। एक खास बात मैंने सभी जगह अनुभव की थी वो यह थी कि हर कथानक में एक वीभत्स हादसे का एक पहलू ज्यादा उजागर करके दिखाया जाता था। ममता जी की दादी का एक संवाद "न हिंदू बुरा था ना मुसलमान बुरा था, बस वक्त बुरा था" इस उपन्यास की सच्ची पृष्ठभूमि है। आरंभ में दिए गए सरल और सरस ऐतिहासिक संदर्भ के पश्चात पूरा कथानक एक दादी जो बंटवारे के बाद पाकिस्तान से आकर भारत में बस गई है और उसकी स्कूल जाती पोती जो अकेली उसके साथ रहती है। उनके बीच कोतुहल के प्रश्न और उनके बहुत ही परिपक्व उत्तरों के रूप में बंटवारे के दर्द, मानवता के बदलते स्वरूप, और इंसानियत के शर्मशार होने के रिश्तों का लेखा-जोखा है। बहुत ही सुंदरता से लेखिका ने उनकी दादी के आकर्षक व्यक्तित्व, सरल स्वभाव, कर्मठ जीवन , सकारात्मकता , अनुशासन और प्रगतिशील मानसिकता को विभाजन की हिंसा और कुकर्मों की वीभत्सता को काफी हद तक संतुलित करके प्रयोग किया है, अन्यथा यह उपन्यास भी अन्य उपन्यासों की तरह मन को दहला देने वाला हो जाता। पूरे उपन्यास में संतुलन दिखाई देता है परंतु यह संतुलन कहीं भी सत्यता के आड़े नहीं आता। वीरा, देवकी, फिरोजा, जस्सी और विद्या के किस्सों में जहां राक्षसों के दर्शन होते हैं, दर्द के सैलाब की कहानियां हैं, वहीं अल्लाहदित्ता जैसा रहम दिल पड़ोसी भी विद्यमान है। मुझे एक बेटे द्वारा बूढ़ी मां को घर पर अकेले जलने के लिए छोड़कर जान बचाकर चले जाने वाला वृतांत अंदर तक झकझोर गया। साथ ही दुर्गा दादी का छोटा सा पात्र इसलिए प्रभावित कर गया कि वो विस्थापन के शिकार लोगों का बड़ी ही सच्चाई से बयान करके लिखा गया है। दुर्गा दादी के कानों में झूल रही बालियां , हाथों में सोने के घिसे कंगन उनकी संपन्नता और इतिहास की साक्षी थीं मगर पैरों की फटी एड़ियां और घिसी चप्पल उनके वर्तमान संघर्ष की दुहाई दे रही थीं। दादी और पोती के बीच बनी घनिष्ठता का संबंध, पोती के व्यक्तित्व पर उनकी छाप और इतनी कड़वाहट के होते हुए भी आगे बढ़कर सफल होने वाले जज्बे ने इस उपन्यास को अन्य विभाजन से जुड़े उपन्यासों से कई स्तर ऊपर कर दिया है।
