Why Cinema for Children?
Why do we need stories? Stories are universal and create connections across time, place, and cultures. Films, invariably, are one of the most influential art forms. Why? They tell universal stories across national boundaries and languages. Film helps us expand our world, introducing us to values, struggles, innovations, and beliefs beyond our daily experience. Cinema is a quite powerful - as an instructional medium. It unifies learning and entertainment, and also captures student interest and highlights issues closer to us. It is as much ground-breaking as creative. Numerous research studies have shown that creative and artistic activities benefit children’s learning and development as a whole, have significant positive impacts on parent-child relationships, and can lead to better mental health in later life. Quality arts experiences in early childhood can also impact the brain’s development in other areas. A film has the potential to create an emotional connection to its subject matter and can provide a human experience.
