A sheriff has ordered that a self-styled "African tribe" should be removed from privately-owned land in the Scottish Borders.

The three members of the self-proclaimed Kingdom of Kubala have been camping in woodland near Jedburgh for several weeks.

They said they were reclaiming land that was stolen from their ancestors 400 years ago - but the local council said they were breaking the law.

Ghanaian Kofi Offeh, 36, and Jean Gasho, 42, who is originally from Zimbabwe, first arrived in spring - they were later joined by "handmaiden" Kaura Taylor, from Texas, who calls herself Asnat.

The eviction order, which takes effect immediately, was issued after the group ignored a previous instruction to leave.

In the early days of Kim Jong Un, we had some hope, but that hope did not last long.”

The North Korean government is increasingly implementing the death penalty, including for people caught watching and sharing foreign films and TV dramas, a major UN report has found.

The dictatorship, which remains largely cut off from the world, is also subjecting its people to more forced labour while further restricting their freedoms, the report added.

The UN Human Rights Office found that over the past decade the North Korean state had tightened control over "all aspects of citizens' lives".

It has urged the international community to act and is asking the North Korean government to abolish its political prison camps, end the use of the death penalty and teach its citizens about human rights.

More than 800 people have now died after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan, with more than 2,000 injured, the UN's humanitarian agency has said, citing preliminary reports.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of 8km (five miles) - which can be more destructive - with its epicentre 17 miles (27km) away from Jalalabad, the country's fifth-largest city.

The remote areas affected make assessing the damage hard and helicopters are trying to rescue people from difficult-to-access regions.

Masses are feared trapped under the rubble, while officials report entire villages being destroyed.

Local people have said landslides have cut off areas near the epicentre, meaning rescue operations will be slow-moving.

Donald Trump welcomed Vladimir Putin to Alaska on Friday for talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

But despite the friendliness on show, the day wrapped up earlier than scheduled and ended without any sign of a significant breakthrough or ceasefire agreement - although Trump insisted the two sides had made “some great progress”.

Reporters shouted questions as the two leaders posed for photographs.

Putin gave no response as he was asked "When will you stop killing civilians?" and "Why should Trump trust your words?"

Donald Trump described the meeting as “extremely productive”.

Ukraine's President Zelensky has said he will travel to Washington DC to meet Trump on Monday.

Nasa has said it will fast-track plans to build a nuclear reactor on the Moon by 2030, as part of a plan to build a permanent base for humans to live on the lunar surface.

The US joins a number of nations including China, Russia, India and Japan who are rushing to explore the moon’s surface, with some planning permanent human settlements.

But some scientists have concerns about the project.

"It seems that we're going back into the old first space race days of competition, which, from a scientific perspective, is a little bit disappointing and concerning," said Dr Simeon Barber, planetary science specialist at the Open University.

More than 7,000 cases of a mosquito-borne virus have been reported across China's Guangdong province.

Measures have now been put in place in an effort to control the spread of the chikungunya virus.

Giant "elephant mosquitoes" are being released that can devour smaller, chikungunya-spreading bugs along with an army of mosquito-eating fish.

Authorities have also instructed residents to remove stagnant water in their homes, with fines of up to 10,000 yuan (£1,048) if they don't do this.

In Foshan city, which has been hit the hardest, chikungunya patients must stay in hospital, where their beds will be protected with mosquito nets.
