India finished second in the medal tally at the World Youth Archery Championships 2025, held in Winnipeg, Canada, with 8 medals—4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. Once again, India’s dominance in compound archery stood out, with 5 medals including 3 golds, confirming our position as the leading nation in this discipline. Recurve archery too brought encouraging results with 3 medals, including a gold, though not on the same level as compound. It is important to note that compound archery has not yet been part of the Olympics (till 2024), but will debut at the 2028 Games with the mixed team event, paving the way for wider recognition in the future.
While some argue that India’s performance has dipped compared to the previous edition where we won 11 medals (6 golds), the reality is that maintaining a top three finish consistently is itself a mark of progress. In the past, during the 2010s, India often managed just 2-3 medals and golds came after long gaps, but now multiple golds and podium finishes are becoming the norm. Even if we discount the 2021 edition where South Korea did not participate, India has secured second place in consecutive editions and proven its strength at the world level. We have sustained this standard, avoiding sliding back into mediocrity, and now it's time to translate junior level success into senior level results. With compound archery set to feature in the Olympics from 2028, India’s steady rise at the youth level is a strong indication of bigger achievements to come. Indua has already started excelling at senior level in the Compound Archery though we still haven't produced big results in Recurve. We had made an analysis in 2024.
