Punjab Police Secures First-Ever Extradition From Europe, Gangster Amritpal Singh Brought Back From Moldova
In a major blow to transnational organised crime, Punjab Police has secured the extradition of fugitive criminal Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam, a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Gang, from the Republic of Moldova.
According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, Singh is wanted in multiple cases involving murder, attempt to murder, UAPA, Arms Act and narcotics offences. The extradition marks the first-ever extradition secured by Punjab Police from a European country.
The operation, named Operation Eastern Reach, was a six-month intelligence-led international manhunt involving sustained surveillance and close coordination between the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) Punjab, central agencies and international partners.
Punjab Police thanked the authorities of Moldova and Azerbaijan, along with the IPCU-CBI, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs and other agencies, for their cooperation.
The development underscores Punjab Police's expanding international efforts to track down fugitives hiding abroad and bring them back to India to face the law.
