World corn stocks are shrinking. USDA’s September WASDE report just projected global corn ending stocks for 2026/27 at 272.1 million tons, down 9.7% from last year and the lowest level in five years.
The main driver: a cut to the U.S. corn yield to 178.5 bushels per acre, trimming total U.S. production to 15.8 billion bushels. Wheat and soybean stocks are holding up better by comparison, but with less cushion across the board, weather through harvest will matter more than usual. 🌽
