Massive land clearing in Kwara Smart City as govt begins work on KWSUED's Senate Building, Gate House

Kwara State Government on Thursday handed to a contractor the site for the construction of a multistorey Senate building for the State University of Education — a major step in the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s smart city project.

Along with other top public and private sector infrastructure, the university’s permanent site is designed to be in the First District of the Kwara Smart City at the Alalubosa suburb of Ilorin East Local Government Area.

Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, said Kwara Smart City will have 20 districts, the first of which comprises the University and a few other iconic infrastructures.

Thirty of the 120 kilometers of roads within the First, Second, and Third Districts
have so far been cleared for the smooth take-off of the smart city project, according to the commissioner.

“What we are doing today is to officially hand over the site of the University of Education to the contractor. We expect a quality job that will provide a standard campus for the people of Kwara State,” the Commissioner said as he handed over the site to the contractor, MC&T Nig Ltd.

“We are making history because we have a visionary leader, who believes that to develop any state, or any nation, you must invest in education and other supporting infrastructure.

“This is mostly a virgin land and, in a couple of months, we are going to see the development that will happen here, from education to the health sector, housing units and others.

"Everywhere will be planned, from residential to commercial, education zone, enterprise zone, recreational, among others, all within 20 districts connected by sustainable transportation. This is worthy of commendation and emulation.”

He commended AbdulRazaq’s vision of bringing Kwara to “the world of what a formal urban development should look like”.

Dr Ogunsola said the Governor has also facilitated 250 housing units from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and another 100 units under the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Tertiary Education Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Alhaja Risikat AbdulAzeez; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye; Vice Chancellor of KWASUED, Prof. Medinat Salman; and Baale Alalubosa, Alhaji Sakariyau Sonibare.

Modibbo and Ajakaye took turns to acknowledge the leadership qualities of Governor AbdulRazaq for conceiving the project, noting this demonstrates the importance the Governor attaches to education and physical development.

Modibbo applauded AbdulRazaq for prioritising education in the state.

"We have a visionary leader who believes that to develop any state, to develop any country, for nation building, you must invest in the education sector. Education is the most important empowerment as far as we are alive that you can give because it gives a level playing ground to all children," she said.

Ajakaye lauded the Governor for his commitment to seeing through such an iconic project, saying that the concept is about sustainable living and development.

"This is about visionary leadership. I am using this opportunity to call on everybody to come on board. This is a project for the future. Beyond the university, it is about how we are going to live sustainably over the next few decades,” he said.

Baale Alalubosa, Alhaji Sonibare, thanked the Governor for citing the University’s main campus in the community, expressing hope that the initiative will stimulate rapid growth and development of the area.

6 BRIGADE SUSTAINS MAJOR OFFENSIVE IN TARABA: BANDITS’ CAMPS DESTROYED, TWO NEUTRALISED, WEAPONS RECOVERED AND KEY SUSPECT ARRESTED

Troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified their ongoing offensive across Taraba State, recording multiple operational successes that include the destruction of bandits’ camps, neutralisation of armed elements, recovery of weapons, and the arrest of a key suspect linked to criminal activities in the region.

On 2 December 2025, troops launched a deliberate clearance operation under Operation Zafin Wuta across Shiid, Agia and Tyozua villages in Takum LGA following credible intelligence on the activities of armed groups within the Tor-Tser general area. As the soldiers advanced towards the mountainous hideouts, the bandits fled deeper into the rugged terrain, abandoning their camps. The troops conducted a detailed search before destroying the camps, which the criminals had previously claimed were inaccessible to security forces. In Tyozua, the fleeing bandits set ablaze a wooden bridge in an attempt to obstruct troop movement, but the soldiers pressed forward with determination and forced the criminals across the power line into neighbouring Benue State. During exploitation, one suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.

In a related development, troops conducted a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido and its environs on 4 Dec 25 to deny bandits freedom of movement. While moving towards Usmanu, the patrol came under fire from armed bandits concealed behind Wudompi Community. The soldiers responded swiftly, repelling the attack and neutralising two of the armed men. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition, with no casualties recorded on the part of own troops. The attackers are assessed to be members of the Karimjo faction responsible for recent attempts at regrouping within the area. Security within Karim Lamido remains calm, with troops maintaining heightened alertness.

Reacting to the sustained operational successes, Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the professionalism and gallantry displayed by the troops. He stated that the series of operations once again demonstrates that no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal enclave is beyond reach. He assured residents across Taraba State that the Brigade remains unwavering in its resolve to pursue criminals wherever they may flee and to sustain pressure until all threats to peace.

“70% of those currently working with Tinubu, opposed him politically before” ~ Bwala

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has revealed that nearly 70 per cent of those currently working with the President had, at one point, opposed him politically.

Bwala stated this while responding to concerns that some individuals on the ambassadorial list were undeserving because they had previously criticised or worked against Tinubu.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Bwala recalled a conversation in which Tinubu told him that his mother taught him to embrace even those who once stood against him.

He said, “Our posture from the Presidency is to be silent until the National Assembly can run through the confirmation process, because we feel that if we throw energy behind that, it will amount to prejudicing the National Assembly, as subjecting them to the process will lead to them being sworn in as ambassadors.

Yaya Toure on Pep Guardiola 🗣

“The Barcelona coach calls me at the time and says, ‘You have to come back, it’s important.’

My wife tells me: ‘You’re really going to listen to that nonsense? He humiliated you, and now he wants you to stay? Are you going to stay? Let’s go to Manchester, my brother.’

The guy didn’t play me the whole year, and at the end of the year, I shine at the World Cup, and then he brings me to Barcelona.

My wife would say: ‘Him? Shaitan—he’s not a man, he’s a snake, he’s evil.’ She sees him as a negative person,”
