Every Indian should read this NYT Editorial Board article, telling whole of America as to what is Donald Trump. You will be able relate to lot of things with what is happening around you. The scathing description of Trumpism and his acts as the last Presidnt sends achill through your spine.

He failed the tests of leadership and betrayed America. Voters must stand up to him in November.

Good bye to Tinder and other apps. An upside down pineapple between 7 pm to 8 pm in a super market fruit isle will be enough to send a message to all singles that you are looking for a partner. Presently in Spain. But then we are in a connected world today. So may be we start sprucing up our fruit isle in super markets and also start taking more fruits in our diets. This seems to be a kind of break. I am health conscious and am already on heavy fruit diet. A great aficionado of fruits. Ahem.

You may find the person you’ll walk down the aisle with while walking down an aisle. Fed up with dating apps, singles in Spain are turning to supermarket-based matchmaking, hoping to find their special someone.

The trend, first popularized on TikTok, involves putting a pineapple upside down in one’s shopping cart between 7pm and 8pm at stores in the popular supermarket chain Mercadona. This move alerts other singles that you’re available and invites them to bump their cart into your cart (think of this as sending a “like”). If both people end up in the wine section, it’s a match.

Does it work? The trend is a nuisance for staff, who have to hide the pineapples for an hour each day. And last week, police were called to one store due to an unruly crowd, though they didn’t have to intervene. But it must be doing something, because it’s being copied: The German chain Lidl sent a message to its customers in Spain, inviting them to put a watermelon in their carts if they’re looking for love.

Zoom out: Apps like Tinder and Bumble are turning to IRL meetups as young people grow disillusioned with swiping and singles increasingly make their own offline events, such as speed dating or hobby-based events like run clubs.—CC

A growing trend in Spain suggests heading to the supermarket in lieu of swiping on dating apps.

When my friends in bureaucracy tell me tales about their ingenuity in policy making I always took it with dollops of salt. No wonder I have to take beta blockers now.

Taking a call sitting in tony restaurant in the khan market or deeply carpeted offices in North or South blocks makes all the difference. So deeply removed from the life of the poor, they could hardly fathom their plight in the covid lockdown, and now they can hardly know how the PDS works. Court advisors used to write the 'farmans' and to hell with the people.

Policy making should go sea change. Those responsible to draw policies from lowest under secretary to the highest minister should be sent in the fields for months just to know the ground realities before they could even draw the first draft.

Then this policy should be opened for the public to respond to it. All stakeholders should be intimated to look into it and tell how it will affect them. Then and only then a decision should be taken considering the points raised by all cohorts of people.

Ivory tower is no longer a place to take a call, especially in this age of communication.

Ironically, the E-KYC verification exercise for removing unwanted beneficiaries (dead, fake, etc) from the food security coverage list is turning out to be a real threat to most of the genuine ration cardholder population, particularly the migrant population.

It is a little mercy too late. These anti trust actions should have been taken by the governments when the tech giants were indiscriminately acquiring over different startups and ITES platforms, consolidating their tentacles in every thing tech and monopolising the entire internet scene around four decades back. The action being taken by the judiciary now is a feeble effort to tame the fire spitting dragon by its tail. And especially when the lapse gave undue advantage to tech companies of possessing huge amounts of data to be used for nefarious purposes. Remember Cambridge Analytica.

In a democratic setup, civil societies are as important as the media and / or any other pillars of on which democracy rests. The move to prohibit foreign funding and cancellation of FCRA in a summary fashion is subject to different interpretations. The loss was massive. Instead of better audit and other preventive measure, a total choking of funds was a death knell. If all institutions with possibility of malfeseance were summarily closed down, i am sure almost all government, quasi government and institution will have to shut shop. The motive of the government is obvious.

The cancelation of foreign funding licences of civil society groups has affected employees and created a gap in healthcare work and other crucial sectors.
