The Pioneer

The Pioneer One of India's oldest English daily newspapers with a storied history, on whose rolls Rudyard Kipling and Winston Churchill once belonged.

The Pioneer presents a point of view that no other newspaper does with our thoughtful commentary and analysis. The Pioneer was founded in 1865 during the British Raj by an Englishman George Allen. The paper which initially strongly supported the Imperial rule of India once employed a young Winston Churchill as its war correspondent during the second Boer War. Rudyard Kipling, the famous author of

The Jungle Book was employed as an Assistant Editor of the newspaper between November 1887 and March 1889. In the recent past, this small, independent newspaper fell on bad times as large conglomerates began to dominate the media in India. However, in 1996, Chandan Mitra, one of India's top journalists took over as Editor of the newspaper. In 1998, as the paper faced serious financial difficulties, he bought the newspaper out and through the persistence of a small but dedicated team of journalists and managers managed to keep it afloat during those troubled times. The newspaper survived, becoming one of the only independent national newspapers thanks to the support of a small but growing population of dedicated readers.

Opposition MPs, including Leaders of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, took out a protest march from Parliament House to the Election Commission against the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and alleged "vote chori" but were stopped midway by the police and detained amid high drama.

Police put up barricades outside the PTI Building on the way to prevent the MPs, protesting the voter roll revision in Bihar and the alleged poll rigging, from marching forward.

As the MPs were stopped, many of them sat on the road and raised slogans, while some women MPs, including saree-clad TMC's Mahua Moitra and the Congress' Sanjana Jatav and Jothimani, climbed the barricading and raised slogans against the EC.

Mr. Dilip Kumar Khare, Technical Advisor, World Biogas Association (WBA), at The Pioneer Biofuels 360 Summit:

"Initially, CBG production focused on cow dung and animal waste, but sewage sludge is also a major untapped source. STP (sewage treatment plants) should be widely installed in cities; some citizens are already leading by example. However, to scale this to an industrial level, we need strong investor confidence and greater public awareness to truly drive the CBG movement forward."

"Biogas is a step forward, aligned with the vision of the Prime Minister and the National Dairy Development Board. Earlier, our focus was solely on milk; now, we’re also recognizing the potential of cow dung to boost farmers’ income through biogas production. With over 30,000 biogas plants already operational, we’re not only enhancing farmers' income but also saving government subsidy on LPG and providing clean fuel to people."
