The art of Hand Block printing has been austerely encrypted in the very fabric of the Chippa (derived from the Hindi word chapai/printing) family for over 250 years now. The then Maharajas of Jaipur like Sawai Mann Singh and Sawai Jai Singh were so fantasized by the intricacy of the print and patterns of this historical art, meticulously designed by the artisans of the Chippa Family, that the kings decided to hire the then Chippa artisans to design Curtains for them.

What started with The Chippa forefathers, is now a means of livelihood for Kartik Chippa, the founder of Shreeji Hastkala, and his small yet tightly-knit-together family. Based in Bagru (near Jaipur), Rajasthan, Kartik’s family has been creating masterpieces using the ancient hastkala technique of woodblock printing for 4 generations. Aiming to continue this tradition, the founder strives to explore various means to spread the word about the hastkala and create employment through their business.

It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that Kartik took the responsibilities of the marketing of his family’s art on his shoulders. “When we were hit by the Pandemic, though our lives turned upside down, it was indeed a wake-up call for me,” Kartik starts disclosing how and why he started Shreeji Hastakala.

The design of the office goes beyond mere aesthetics; it embodies the belief that good design should seamlessly integrate functionality with beauty. Despite its compact size, every square inch of the office has been meticulously planned to optimize space without compromising on purpose or aesthetics. One of the key highlights of the office is the deliberate use of a black-and-white palette, symbolizing the duality inherent in design principles.
