On Friday, 7 August 2026, was a truly special and memorable day for all of us at the CBT.
We were deeply honoured to welcome Smt. Sudha Murty, one of India’s most beloved authors, educators and philanthropists, during her visit to the Shankar’s International Dolls Museum and B.C. Roy Memorial Reading Room and Library. Known for her simple and meaningful writing, especially for children and young readers, and for her lifelong commitment to education and social service, Smt. Sudha Murty has inspired generations through her books, her work and, above all, her humility.
This was Smt. Sudha Murty’s second visit to the CBT after more than 55 years, making her return an especially meaningful and memorable occasion for all of us.
During her visit, she kindly spent time with Mr. Rajiv Khera (Council Coordinator) and Ms. Geeta Menon (Editor, Children's World and Library In charge). She spoke with team of CBT. She listened intently when we told her about CBT and its Founder, Mr. Shankar Pillai. She also graciously signed the books written by her that our library has placed on its shelves for young readers. These signed books will now hold an even more special place in our library and will become a beautiful gift and lasting memory for the children who read them.
What touched most was her simplicity and her infectious energy and enthusiasm. Her thoughts, perspectives and words were so clear, humble and easy to understand. There was no distance between the celebrated author and the people sitting around her. We all listened very carefully, grateful for the opportunity to hear her thoughts and spend those precious moments with her.
It was truly an honour to meet Smt. Sudha Murty and to have her take out time to visit us and spend time with our team. Her presence brought a special warmth to the library, and her signed books will continue to carry that warmth to our young readers.
We were also delighted to present her with a Odissi doll from the Classical Dances of India series, handcrafted in our own Dolls Workshop, attached to Dolls Museum and with select CBT books and the latest copies of our monthly magazine, Children's World.
