20 Safar – Chelum e Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (A.S.)
This was the day when the burning sands of Karbala once again felt the footsteps of the Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.). It was the very land where, only days earlier, they had been forced to leave the bodies of their beloved ones without burial. Now, after enduring the hardships of captivity in Sham, Bibi Zaynab (A.S.), Imam Zayn al-Abidin (A.S.), and the remaining members of the Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.) returned to Karbala.
Just imagine that heartbreaking moment… when Bibi Zaynab (A.S.) stood at the grave of her beloved brother, Imam Hussain (A.S.), and poured out all the pain of her heart in tears. The brother she had last seen covered in blood, she now stood before his silent grave as if saying:
“Brother Hussain (A.S.), we have returned… but Ali Akbar (A.S.) is no longer with us, Abbas (A.S.) is no longer with us, Qasim (A.S.) is no longer with us, nor is the innocent Ali Asghar (A.S.), who left this world with an arrow piercing his tiny neck.”
According to historical narrations, on this very day, the noble companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari (R.A.), also arrived in Karbala and became the first pilgrim to visit the grave of Imam Hussain (A.S.). He offered his salutations at the blessed shrine and paid tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.
Arbaeen reminds us that swords may wound bodies, but they can never silence the truth. Yazid’s throne disappeared with time, yet the name of Imam Hussain (A.S.) continues to live in the hearts of millions.
Peace be upon Hussain (A.S.), and upon Ali ibn al-Hussain (A.S.), and upon the children of Hussain (A.S.), and upon the companions of Hussain (A.S.).
O Hussain (A.S.)… your grief will remain alive until the Day of Judgment, and your sacrifice will forever remain a guiding light for humanity.
