A little sneak peek into what I experienced last week✨
I reached the starting point of a short trek where a girl at the entry ticket counter asked me, "Are you alone?" I said, "Yes".I asked her about the trail and she explained that there were a few diversions. After finishing the trek around 6 PM, I noticed something kept under a vessel and asked her about it. She smiled and offered me some homemade puri and chana. As it was turning dark,I asked if there was any place where I could stay for the night before leaving early the next morning. After checking with her father, she invited me into her home. And just like that, I stepped into a whole new world-a beautiful Khasi family. The house was full of life.Children running around, laughing and playing with each other. It reminded me how rare it has become to see kids so energetic and present, without being lost in mobile phones. She was one of six sisters.Their parents went to the market to buy everything needed for dinner and the cooking was lovingly done by the daughters over a traditional firewood stove.I stood there in complete wonder, watching everything unfold. It wasn't just food-it was love, teamwork and warmth served on a plate. At one point she asked me:Don't you feel scared traveling alone?I replied: Of course I do. But the only way to overcome fear is to walk through it to achieve this.Later at night, she invited me to the TV room.Despite the rain, people walked with umbrellas and torches just to watch the FIFA match together.Watching the entire neighborhood gather like that took me back to the Doordarshan days, when families would eagerly wait all week just to watch one movie together. It reminded me that sometimes the greatest luxury isn't technology-it's togetherness. When it was finally time to leave, I hugged her with tears in my eyes.I don't think she understood why I was emotional. It wasn't because I was leaving. It was because, in just one evening, a family of strangers made me feel like I belonged.Thank you for opening your home and your hearts to me and giving me the princess treatment.Again it reminded, most unforgettable experience is not about the destinations but the people we meet along the way✨
