Sunny Deol plays Sikandar Mirza, a man whose family reaches Lahore and is allotted a house still occupied by an elderly Hindu woman, Mai (Shabana Azmi), who refuses to leave. Their relationship slowly transforms from tension into a deep, family-like bond, highlighting humanity over hatred.
Sunny Deol delivers a powerful performance filled with rage, fear, and vulnerability, while Shabana Azmi shines with natural grace. Their chemistry forms the film’s core. Preity Zinta is effective in a serious role after a long gap. Rated 4 stars, the film prioritizes emotions and relationships, though pacing dips at times. It is a heartfelt watch that portrays Partition through compassion rather than revenge.
