Clash in Dharmapasha over land dispute: 12 injured including police-journalist, 4 detained

At least 12 people, including policemen and journalists, were injured in a clash between two sides in Badshaganj Bazar of Sunamganj's Dharmapasha Upazila due to a dispute over land. Police arrested four people in this incident.
The incident took place at Badshaganj Bazar of Paikurati Union of the upazila around 11:30 am on Sunday (May 31). On receiving information about the clash, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and arrested four people.
The arrested persons are Anar Mia of Uttarbir village of Selbarash Union, Shyamal, Arfin and Parvez Mia, son of Shihab Uddin of Rajapur village of Sukhair Rajapur South Union.
According to local sources, there was a long-standing dispute between Taher Uddin Sona Mia, the former president of Selbarash Union BNP, and Annar Mia of Uttarbir village over a place in Badshaganj Bazar. Both parties have been claiming ownership of their respective shares through purchase. Both parties have shops in the disputed area and tenants have also been installed.
On Sunday morning, Anar Mia and his men broke down the wall between the two shops, causing tension in the situation. When Sona Mia's people went there after getting the news, the two sides were arguing and a clash broke out.
Taher Uddin Sona Mia, Liton Mia, Nurul Huda, Wahid, Anwar Talukder, Anar Mia, Parvez, Nirmal, Arfin, local journalist Mithu Mia, including at least 12 people from both sides were injured in the clash.
Injured Sona Mia said, "In 1996, I and a person from Chakiachapur bought the said place. Annar Mia bought a part of the place in 2020 and started torturing me. Annar Mia and his forces ambushed me and broke the lock of my house and looted 2 lakh rupees and injured some people including me and my younger brother Liton."
Annar Mia's statement could not be taken as she is in police custody.
Eyewitness journalist Md. Mithu Mia said that I myself was injured after trying to stop the fight on both sides.
According to the police, some people from both sides attacked the police while arresting four people from the spot and bringing them to the police station. The policeman said. Ghaziul, Biblab and Salim were injured.Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dharmapasha Police Station Mohammad Shahid Ullya said that four persons who attacked the police were immediately arrested from the spot and considering the overall situation, the process of taking legal action is underway.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle) SM Fazle Rabbi Rajib said that the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Three members were injured when the police were attacked on their way back with the arrested. The incident will be investigated and necessary action will be taken. # #
