The much-awaited Khanan, the flagship techno-mining fest of the Department of Mining Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, kicked off with great enthusiasm and spirit on October 25, 2025. The events were as follows:-
Inauguration:
Khanan'25 was inaugurated at 10:00 AM, with elegant hosting by Nipun Shekhar, Sakshi Priya, and Siddhi Sen, and Chief Guest Shri Ujjwal Tah, DGMS Director General, graced it. The ceremony began with a lamp lighting, followed by speeches highlighting Khanan's significance. Mementoes and shawls were presented to guests. Mr Manish Singh, President, SME IIT(ISM) Student Chapter, delivered the vote of thanks. The event concluded at 12:25 PM, inspiring enthusiasm for Khanan'25.
Kalakriti:
Kalakriti, a drawing competition under Khanan'25, was held at NLHC G1 from 1:15 PM to 3:00 PM, commencing 15 minutes early. Ninety-five students participated, showcasing creativity and promoting artistic expression. Organised with Kartavya and FFI, the event highlighted art's role in social awareness and positive change, making it a vibrant and memorable part of Khanan '25.
HZL Session:
Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) hosted a "Women in Mining" session at the Penman Auditorium, starting at 1:20 PM. The event featured HZL delegates presenting the company's operations and work culture. They highlighted the growing participation of women in mining, showcasing examples of women excelling in various roles, and addressed HZL's initiatives for promoting gender equality and fostering an inclusive workplace. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, wrapping up at 2:45 PM and leaving participants inspired.
MinTech Workshop:
The MineTech Workshop on Methods, Design & Virtual Reality started at 2:15 PM, with a 15-minute delay, and concluding at 3:30 PM. Participants explored the Longwall Gallery and Bord & Pillar Gallery, gaining insights into practical mining operations and design techniques. A session on Artificial Intelligence and Digitalisation in Mines focused on integrating modern technologies into mining practices.
