The establishment of the town and the name "Gauripur" has an interesting story associated with the main architect of Gauripur, Raja Pratap Chandra Barua. It is believed that Raja Barua was hunting in the forest and came across a frog eating a snake. He was astonished to see this unnatural and unheard of sight. Being a strong devotee of the Goddess Mahamaya, he was convinced that what he saw was a

supernatural message for him. Shortly afterwards, he established a temple for Goddess Mahamaya and named it Gauripur after the alias "Gauri" of Mahamaya.[2]

85-year-old Taiyab Ali of Dhubri paid off a pending court debt of Rs 540 on behalf of his late father, Md Ishak Mia, who passed away 50 years ago.

Ali received a notice this week from the National Lok Adalat summoning his deceased father to appear in a long-pending case related to a bank account. Rather than ignoring it, Ali went to the court and settled the amount, bringing closure to a decades-old matter.

The gesture moved court officials and advocates, who noted it was not about the small sum but a son’s enduring respect and sense of duty. “It was about a son’s love and responsibility that time itself could not erase,” remarked one advocate.

For Ali, the payment was a symbolic act of remembrance and devotion, ending a matter his father could never resolve in life.
