🌟 Another recognition and milestone for Radio Brahmaputra from Mumbai: 🌟
At the AUDIO VISUAL & ENTERTAINMENT SUMMIT (WAVE) held at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, Brahmaputra Community Radio Station (BCRS) was honored as the winner in the Public Health and Safety category under the Community Radio Content Challenge. This prestigious initiative was organized by the Community Radio Association of India in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Government of India. As part of the award, BCRS received a memento and a cash prize of ₹50,000.
BCRS earned this recognition for its groundbreaking radio series "Zindegi Khulke Jiba", produced in Sadri, a dialect spoken by the tea garden community. The series centers on menstrual health and hygiene, and was thoughtfully created for adolescent girls from marginalized tea garden communities. It was lauded for its innovative and creative content, addressing culturally sensitive issues with authentic storytelling, community participation, and impactful messaging.
"Zindegi Khulke Jiba" was conceptualized and produced by the Brahmaputra Foundation for SR&LP lead by Bhaskar Jyoti Bhuyan to promote behavior change communication around menstrual health. The program was brought to life by a committed team of local community producers, including Mrs. Rumi Naik, Mr. Pinku Gohain, Mr. Kritomjit Hajong, and others. Through this series, BCRS successfully challenged deep-rooted taboos and stereotypes, creating an open dialogue around a topic traditionally considered taboo in formal discussions.
Mr. Bhaskar Jyoti Bhuyan accepted the award on behalf of BCRS and the "Zindegi Khulke Jiba" team on the fourth day of the WAVE Summit. The award was presented by Shri G.S. Kesarwani (Director, MIB), Shri Sandeep Parmar (President, CRA), Dr. S. Chandrasekhar, and Shri Paresh Patel from CRA.
