Myanmar Earthquake

A powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, sending tremors as far as Bangkok, according to earthquake monitoring services cited by Reuters. In the Thai capital, emergency responders reported that a building collapsed in Chatuchak Park, trapping dozens. CNN noted that 50 people were inside the structure at the time of the collapse.

The National Institute for Emergency Medicine provided an update, stating that 43 individuals remain trapped in the debris while seven others have been rescued with injuries. Rescue operations are ongoing to locate and free those still unaccounted for.

Furer-Haimendorf talks about the Nagamese language, which he used to communicate with the Nagas when he first visited them. Haimendorf also described the Konyak Nagas as particularly interesting.
In 1936, Haimendorf undertook his first fieldwork trip to the Naga Hills and visited there several more times afterward. He died on 11 June 1995 at the age of 85.
