GOVERNOR REVIEWS PROGRESS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS OF COFFEE CULTIVATION IN NAGALAND

Kohima, September 1: Governor of Nagaland Shri Nand Kishore Yadav held a review meeting with officials of the Coffee Board of India and the Department of Land Resources at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, to assess the progress, challenges and future prospects of coffee cultivation in the state.
The meeting highlighted the potential of Nagaland to develop specialty and premium coffee as a sustainable livelihood opportunity for farmers. Discussions covered expansion of cultivation, productivity, quality improvement, mechanisation, farmer training and infrastructure development.
Officials also highlighted challenges including difficult transportation, poor road connectivity and limited processing infrastructure, with emphasis on strengthening support systems to further develop Nagaland’s coffee sector.

10TH CAPT. N. KENGURUSE MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT TO KICK OFF IN NAGALAND

The 10th Edition of the Capt. (Late) N. Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament 2026–27 is set to be held from November 2 to 10, 2026, in Nagaland.
The tournament will feature 20 teams across four pools, with a total prize pool of ₹8.69 lakh, an increase of ₹2.22 lakh from the previous edition. Matches will be played at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, and Sammogooting Stadium, Chümoukedima.
Registration for participating teams will remain open from September 1 to 30, 2026, as the tournament marks a decade of competitive football while honouring the legacy of Capt. (Late) N. Kenguruse, MVC.

LIVE-IN COUPLE FOUND HANGING INSIDE HOUSE IN AGARTALA

Agartala, Tripura: A shocking incident was reported near Bhagaban Thakur Chowmuhani after the bodies of a live-in couple were found hanging inside their residence on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sumanta Debbarma (40) and Priya Debbarma (39), who had reportedly been living together for the past three to four years. Police from Agartala East Police Station recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
While the incident is initially suspected to be a su***de, the exact circumstances remain unclear. Police are investigating all aspects of the case.

MON POLICE BUST TRANS-BORDER STOLEN VEHICLE NETWORK, RECOVER 30 TWO-WHEELERS

Mon Police has announced the detection of a suspected trans-border stolen vehicle network following an operation conducted over the past three weeks.
The district police’s Anti-Vehicle Theft Squad (AVTS) recovered 30 two-wheelers from different locations within Mon town during the operation. Further investigation is underway to trace the network and identify those involved in the theft and movement of the vehicles.

ASSAM RIFLES REPORTS MAJOR OPERATIONAL GAINS ACROSS MANIPUR

Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Indian Army and Manipur Police, reported significant operational gains across Manipur during the week ending August 30, 2026.
Security forces recovered a cache of weapons and war-like stores, including SLR, INSAS, carbine, nine pistols, multiple single- and double-barrel guns, a modified .303 rifle, five hand grenades, a mortar shell, 64 rounds of ammunition and five magazines, among other items.
The operations also resulted in the apprehension of 11 alleged cadres associated with UPPK, UNLF (K), KYKL and UKNA. The apprehended individuals and recovered items were handed over to Manipur Police for further legal proceedings.
