The Indian government has officially assigned standard names to 27 locations and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh, incorporating them into the Survey of India’s official mapping of the state.
The move is being seen as a response to China’s repeated attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. The Ministry of Home Affairs said the official identification of these locations will help ensure their accurate recognition and improve public awareness.
Among the locations listed are Longju, Maja, Bisa, Dzo La, Riza La, Pukur La, Thag La, Sambho Sarovar and Bara Kundun.
China, which refers to Arunachal Pradesh as “South Tibet,” has repeatedly asserted territorial claims over the state. India has consistently rejected these claims, maintaining that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India.
The inclusion of the locations in official Survey of India maps is also expected to strengthen their administrative, geographical and official recognition.

17-year-old Assam karate athlete Janmoni Konwar faced a major setback when floods devastated her home and training ground. Despite the challenges, she earned a spot in a national tournament but struggled to afford the journey.

During his visit to flood-affected Assam, Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey learned about Janmoni’s situation and stepped forward to cover her travel and other expenses, including her flight tickets.
Janmoni turned that support into a remarkable victory, clinching Gold at the 20th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship in New Delhi after a dominant 10–2 win in the final.
