Nagaland filmmaker Theja Rio’s debut feature film, Angh, has made its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film was selected for TIFF’s prestigious Platform Competition, becoming the only Indian film in the section this year.

Set in 1960s Nagaland, Angh follows a Konyak chief and his son as they navigate a changing world where traditional beliefs, culture and Christianity come into conflict. The film features actors from Nagaland alongside BAFTA-winning actor Douglas Henshall.

The film was shot on 16mm and is rooted in the history, culture and stories of Nagaland. Its appearance at TIFF brings a Naga story and filmmaking from the Northeast to an international audience.
