Veteran Leader Imkong L. Imchen Passes Away In Guwahati

𝐊𝐨𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐚, 𝐍𝐨𝐯 𝟏𝟏: Nagaland Advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, Shri Imkong L. Imchen, has passed away following a brief period of illness.

Imchen, who had been hospitalised at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) on November 8 after suffering health complications, was airlifted to Guwahati on Monday for further treatment. Hospital sources had earlier confirmed that he was released between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. and taken to a private hospital in Guwahati for specialised medical care.

On the evening of Nov 9, doctors from NHAK had reported that the 75-year-old legislator was doing much better after suffering a heart attack on the night of November 8. He was placed on a ventilator and was known to have underlying kidney-related issues and diabetes.

Born in Mokokchung district, Imchen was a veteran political leader and a prominent figure in Nagaland’s political landscape. He was a five-time elected member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the Koridang Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2023 general election.

Throughout his long political career, Imchen held several key portfolios in the Nagaland government, including ministerial positions in various departments.

Condoling his demise, Dy. CM Y Patton Tweeted, "Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hon’ble MLA and Advisor, Government of Nagaland, Shri Imkong L. Imchen. His departure marks the loss of one of Nagaland’s most respected and seasoned leaders and a guiding presence within the
@ BJP4Nagaland family.
Shri Imchen devoted his life to the service of the people, serving with distinction in various capacities. His commitment to public welfare and sense of duty earned him the trust and respect of all who worked with him.
He believed deeply in the promise of Nagaland—its people, its culture, and its future. Through his decades in public life, he upheld values of integrity, humility, and perseverance, setting a standard for leadership that will be remembered for years to come.
My family and I extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and the people of Nagaland who mourn this great loss. May the Almighty grant strength and comfort to his family in this time of grief.
May his soul rest in eternal peace!"
