7 Killed in Arunachal Pradesh Landslide; Heavy Rain Triggers Tragedy

Arunachal Pradesh, May 30, 2025 — A devastating landslide claimed the lives of seven people on Thursday in Arunachal Pradesh, as relentless rains continue to wreak havoc across the region. The incident occurred on the road between Bana and Seppa when a Brezza car, carrying two families, was swept into a deep gorge by the sudden landslip.

According to local reports, the victims included members of the Sankar Aka family along with the wife and child of Sichi Yame. All seven occupants of the car were confirmed dead.

Another vehicle, a Sumo, was also near the site of the landslide but narrowly escaped being pulled into the gorge. No injuries were reported from the second vehicle.

Rescue operations were promptly launched by local authorities, with teams working to recover the bodies and clear the debris. The landslide was reportedly triggered by continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days, which has rendered several roads across the hilly terrain dangerous and unstable.

Officials have issued advisories urging residents and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys and to exercise extreme caution as weather conditions remain hazardous.

Time to Act: Safeguard Nagaland’s Future💪

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a 30-day deadline for all states and Union Territories to verify the credentials of individuals suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar who claim Indian citizenship. After this period, unverified persons may face deportation.

States without the Inner Line Permit (ILP) are taking strong action, Nagaland with its ILP framework is at risk of becoming a safe zone for undocumented migrants due to lack of enforcement.

We cannot afford to remain silent. We must protect our land, our identity, and our children’s future. Let’s not allow what happened in Tripura where locals became a minority in their own state.

Strike while the iron is hotđź’Ş

Let's urge:

👉Every village and colony council to issue firm guidelines and warnings against sheltering undocumented migrants.

👉Citizens to verify tenants and workers before renting homes or hiring labor.

👉Community leaders to discourage and hold accountable anyone who provides protection or support to such individuals.

🙏Let’s come together as one people to uphold the law and preserve our land. This is not about hate but this is about protection, identity, and responsibility.

History Echoes from Nagaland:

Naga Home Guards Shot Down 3 IAF Aircraft in 1960

On August 26, 1960, amid a fierce standoff with the Indian Army, the Naga Home Guard, under the leadership of Lt. Thanizhe Sema, shot down three Indian Air Force Dakota aircraft near Phor village in the Phek District of Nagaland. The planes were attempting to deliver critical supplies to a besieged army post during a 13-day assault launched by the Naga Home Guards, commanded by General Zuheto Sema.

The operation was a part of a broader offensive against the Indian Army’s "Thuda Camp," following the strategic destruction of five key bridges into the Meluri sub-division. As supplies dwindled inside the camp, the Indian Air Force intervened, prompting anti-aircraft fire from the Naga side.

One Dakota aircraft crash-landed in the forested areas near the Burma (now Myanmar) border, another was damaged and barely reached Jorhat, and a third made a forced landing along the Tizu River near Meluri. In a dramatic turn, Col. Thorpa and Capt. ThokwĂĽma led the capture of Flight Lieutenant Anand Singha and nine crew members.

This significant but lesser-known incident took place in MatikhrĂĽ, a small village of just 15 houses at the time, located near the Manipur border and the then Burma frontier.

The events are documented in "Strange Country" by Zhapuvisie Lhousa and "Nagaland and India" by Kaka D. Iralu.

Over 2.47 Million Applicants Vie for 53,749 Peon Posts in Rajasthan; Nagaland Urged to Ensure Transparency in Hiring

Jaipur: A staggering 24.76 lakh candidates have applied for 53,749 peon positions in Rajasthan, revealing a grim picture of unemployment in the state. The applicant pool includes highly qualified individuals—PhD holders, MBAs, law graduates, and even civil services aspirants—vying for entry-level government jobs. This translates to 46 applicants competing for each vacancy, highlighting the intense competition and scarcity of job opportunities.

In sharp contrast, Nagaland faces a different kind of employment challenge. While the state also struggles with high unemployment, recruitment is often marred by allegations of "backdoor appointments"—a term used to describe irregular, non-transparent hiring practices that bypass merit-based selection.

Many citizens and civil society organizations in Nagaland have repeatedly called for reforms to bring transparency, fairness, and accountability to the state's recruitment process. Observers suggest that Nagaland should take cues from states like Rajasthan, where open applications and large-scale public recruitment drives reflect at least a transparent approach, even amidst overwhelming demand.

The situation in both states underscores the broader national crisis of unemployment and the urgent need for structural reforms in both job creation and recruitment processes.
