KAAC leadership holds key discussions on Union Budget ; Tax reliefs and increased funding

, Feb 22: A high-level discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26 was convened on Saturday at the Arboretum cm Craft Centre conference hall in Diphu, organized by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The event, led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, saw participation from MLAs, Executive Members (EMs), Members of Autonomous Council (MACs), intellectuals, civil society organizations, and stakeholders.

Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso provided a comprehensive overview of the Union Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The session focused on analyzing implications for Assam’s Sixth Schedule areas, particularly Karbi Anglong, and the broader Northeast region.

Addressing the media after the program, CEM Dr. Ronghang highlighted several critical takeaways from the budget; Income tax exemption for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families earning up to ₹12 lakh annually across India. Additionally, tribal communities residing in Sixth Schedule areas will enjoy full income tax exemptions.

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MoDoNER) allocation has been raised to ₹5,000 crores, signaling enhanced focus on infrastructure and welfare projects in the region. Further CEM added no taxes will be levied on agriculture and horticulture products, a move expected to benefit farmers and boost rural economies.

Dr. Ronghang emphasized that the implementation of Article 280 under the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill would enable KAAC to access greater funds and design tailored schemes for Karbi Anglong’s development.

Dr. Ronghang reiterated KAAC’s resolve to leverage the budget’s provisions for equitable growth. “This budget acknowledges the unique needs of tribal regions and the Northeast. 📌The Signatories of Karbi Peace accord went to New Delhi for implementation of all clause of MoS-I and MoS-II in the 125th Ammendment Bill 2019.

New Delhi-17th February 2025, The Six Signatories of Karbi Peace accord went to New Delhi for the aimed to include all clause of both Mos-I and Mos-II in the 125th Ammendment Bill 2019.

As per stated by them, they met Shri Govind Mahajonji Union Home Secretary(ministry of Home affairs) and Shri Piyush Goyal ji additional secretary North East MHA at North Block in the office of Ministry and Home affairs,New Delhi. The meeting with them was regarding the 125th Ammendment Bill 2019 and for early implementation of all clause as per the provision of sixth schedule to the constitution.

They also met earlier with Director of Intelligence Bureau, Govt. Of India Mr. Tapon Kumar Deka and A.K Mishra Adviser of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs North East i/ c on 12th February 2025 and submitted their proposal for early implementation of the 125th Ammendment Bill 2019.

The Team of the Six Signatories of Karbi Peace accord (MoS-II) stated that soon they will get a fruitful result and request to all the people of Karbi Anglong to not spread any misinformation and rumours instead to wait for the result of the 125th Ammendment Bill 2019 which will get benefit from all the clause of MoS-I and MoS-II.
