More than 3,700 grams of o***m was seized by police in Bokajan during a raid conducted at Sukhanjan main town along the highway side.

According to reports, police received information regarding the alleged illegal sale of o***m from a kutcha bamboo house where an elderly couple had been residing. Acting on the tip-off, police reached the location and carried out a search operation.

During the search, police recovered over 3.7 kilograms of suspected o***m from the house. A substantial amount of cash was also recovered from different locations inside the house. Police suspect that the seized money may have been earned through illegal activities related to the o***m trade.

Further investigation is currently underway.

One died, four others were injured in a road accident near Silveta in Karbi Anglong

In a tragic road accident, one woman died and four others were injured, after driver lost control and fell into the road side near Silveta in Karbi Anglong on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

As reported, the vehicle - Gypsy was on the way to Disobai from Diphu, but unfortunately near the Silveta the driver lost the control said got brake fail/ steering lock leading the accident caused one woman death and others four injured taking treatment at Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMC & H), Karbi Anglong.

Diphu, May 22: Members of the Sadiya Assam Chatra Santha, Karbi Anglong district committee, staged a protest demonstration in Diphu on Thursday against the rising prices of essential commodities, edible items, petrol and diesel.

Holding banners and placards, the protesters demanded immediate steps from the government to control inflation and reduce the prices of daily necessities. The demonstrators alleged that the continuous price rise has created hardships for common people and affected daily life across the state.

The protest programme was organised in Diphu town where students and youth activists participated in large numbers and raised slogans against price hikes. The organisation also urged the government to take effective measures to provide relief to the public.

Two Minor Karbi Girls Rescued From Bongaigaon Railway Station, 3 Youths Detained

Two minor Karbi girls from Diphu were allegedly taken away by three youths believed to be from North India, who had reportedly arrived in Diphu recently. Sources said the youths somehow came into contact with the girls before taking them outside Assam by train.

After the girls went missing, their guardians informed leaders of several organisations including Karbi Students’ Association Central Committee (Paul Terang), KNO President (Sarmon Hanse) and KNYC President (Padma Teron)

Following information sharing and coordination by the organisations last night, police launched an operation and successfully traced the group near the Assam border.

Police recovered both the minor girls along with the three youths, and all of them were brought back for further investigation.

Authorities are currently investigating the matter.

Blackout Mock Exercise To Be Conducted At Don Bosco College, Diphu

A blackout mock exercise and rescue operation will be conducted at Don Bosco College, Diphu on April 16 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM under the supervision of Civil Defence authorities.

According to the official plan, an Air Raid Red warning signal will be received from the Regional Civil Defence Control Centre, Tezpur, and sirens will be activated in Diphu as part of the mock drill.

During the exercise, a simulated air strike scenario will be created at the Don Bosco Boys Hostel. Following the alert, teams from Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence, Police, Ambulance and medical departments will carry out rescue and emergency response operations.

The rescue teams will evacuate casualties, provide first aid and triage, and shift the injured persons to a nearby hospital as part of the preparedness exercise.

Officials stated that after completion of the drill, a detailed report will be submitted to the District Magistrate and Controller of Civil Defence.

19-Year-Old Youth Found Dead at Siloni River After Two-Day SDRF Search Operation

A tragic incident at Siloni river in Longsokangthu under Longnit area of Karbi Anglong district ended in sorrow after the dead body of 19-year-old Ritish Bora was recovered today following an extensive two-day search operation by SDRF and Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES).

According to reports, Ritish Bora, a resident of Haldiati, Bakulia in Karbi Anglong district, had come to Siloni picnic spot yesterday along with four family members and one friend. The group of six arrived at the spot around 1 PM by auto-rickshaw.

Soon after reaching the area, Ritish Bora and his friend reportedly went towards a dangerous point of the Siloni river. During the incident, Ritish Bora was swept away by the strong current and drowned, while his friend narrowly managed to save himself. The remaining four family members were safe.

Immediately after the incident, SDRF and Fire & Emergency Services launched a rescue and search operation. After continuous efforts from yesterday till today, the SDRF team finally recovered Ritish Bora’s dead body today at around 3 PM, nearly 50 metres away from the original drowning spot. Officials said the body had drifted away due to the heavy flow of water in the river.

The District Commissioner also visited Siloni today and took stock of the ongoing rescue operation.

Local residents and family members appreciated the hard work and dedication of the SDRF team in recovering the body after hours of continuous searching.

Meanwhile, the members who came with Ritish Bora alleged that despite Siloni being a popular picnic destination, there are no proper safety arrangements at the site. They claimed that basic safety equipment such as life jackets, ropes, barricades, and warning signs are absent at the dangerous river spots.

The tragic incident has created a wave of sorrow across the region.

Youth Drowns at Siloni River in Karbi Anglong, Rescue Operation Underway

A tragic incident took place at Siloni river, Longsokangthu under Longnit area of Karbi Anglong district, where a 19-year-old youth, identified as Ritish Bora of Haldiati, Bakulia, lost his life after drowning in the river on Sunday.

According to reports, Ritish Bora came to Siloni along with four family members and one friend for an outing. The group of six arrived at the picnic spot around 1 PM by auto-rickshaw.

Soon after reaching the area, Ritish Bora and his friend reportedly went directly towards a dangerous spot of the Siloni river. During the incident, Ritish Bora was swept away by the strong water current and drowned, while his friend managed to save himself narrowly. The remaining four members of the group are safe.

Following the incident, rescue operations were immediately launched by SDRF and Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES). However, till the filing of this report, the body of Ritish Bora had not yet been recovered.

Meanwhile, the victim’s full family is reportedly on the way to Siloni after receiving the tragic news.

The other five members who came with him alleged that despite Siloni being a popular picnic destination, there are no proper safety measures at the site. They claimed that basic safety equipment such as life jackets, ropes, warning barricades, and danger signs were absent at the dangerous river spot.

Search and rescue operations are still continuing.

Ratan Engti held a press meet at his residence premises in Diphu at 11 AM today.

He said the election is over, but his party contested with full effort despite lacking resources and advantages.

According to him, they could not win because they are not the ruling government and did not have enough money for campaigning.

He claimed that despite limited resources, they gave tough competition to BJP candidates in the MLA election.

Shri Ratan Engti also spoke about a shocking incident after the vote counting night.

He said that after returning home from the counting centre, he found several petrol bombs and suspicious materials inside his residential compound the next morning.

The matter has been informed to the police, and an investigation is underway.
