NHM Employees Stage Statewide Sit-In Protest Demanding Equal Pay and Job Regularization
Employees under the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, held a statewide mass democratic protest as part of their ongoing agitation demanding equal pay, regularization, and better service benefits. The protest, organized jointly by the All Assam Health & Technical Welfare Association, NHM Assam, and the NHM Employees’ Association, Assam, entered its second day today at the Joint Director of Health Services Office Campus, Diphu.
The three-day program, scheduled from 3rd to 5th November 2025, includes a “Work Abstention and Sit-in Protest” from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily. Hundreds of NHM workers participated, displaying placards reading “Equal Work, Equal Pay” to voice their long-pending demands.
The protesting employees urged the government to implement the 2013 honorable court verdict (Verdict No. 213), calling for contractual NHM workers to be brought under a regular pay structure. Their key demands include gratuity, pension benefits, leave encashment, GPF, and other welfare provisions under the 2021 Assam Gazette Notification (No. HLA.409/2020/Pt/55).
They also appealed for priority regularization of vacant posts, financial assistance to families of deceased employees, and the implementation of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) benefits for all NHM staff.
The associations emphasized that their movement will continue until the state government fulfills their legitimate demands ensuring justice and parity for all NHM workers across Assam.
