World Environment Day Observed in Rongkhang LAC with Massive Tree Plantation Drive

Rongkhang, June 5: Along with the rest of the world, Rongkhang Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) observed World Environment Day with a large-scale tree plantation programme aimed at promoting environmental conservation and creating a greener future.

The initiative was organized by the BJP Mandal Committee with the support of Rongkhang MLA, Dr. Tuliram Ronghang. As part of the programme, around 1,000 saplings of various species were planted along the stretch from the BJP office to the local hospital and surrounding areas.

Speaking on the occasion, party leaders and participants emphasized the importance of protecting nature and increasing green cover to ensure a healthier environment for future generations. They stated that environmental protection is a collective responsibility and that tree plantation remains one of the most effective ways to combat climate change and ecological degradation.

The organisers expressed gratitude to MLA Dr. Tuliram Ronghang for his continuous support and commitment towards developmental and environmental initiatives in the constituency. They noted that he has consistently worked for the welfare of the people and the sustainable development of the region.

The plantation drive witnessed the participation of BJP workers, local leaders, youth volunteers and residents, who joined hands to make the programme a success and pledged to care for the saplings in the coming years.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, participants also appealed to the public to plant more trees and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and healthier planet.

APHLC to Hold Sit-in Demonstration in Diphu Today, Presses for Autonomous State and Protection of Sixth Schedule Rights

Diphu, June 1: The All Party Hills Leaders' Conference (APHLC) is set to organize a sit-in demonstration today at 10:00 AM in front of KASA Stadium Gate, Diphu, raising several key political and constitutional demands concerning the hill districts of Assam.

According to the banner displayed at the protest venue, the demonstration will focus on four major demands:

1. Immediate implementation of Article 244(A) for the creation of an Autonomous State comprising Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao.

2. Opposition to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam.

3. Demand to halt the implementation of the Panchayati Raj System in Sixth Schedule areas.

4. Immediate implementation of Paragraph 2(7) of the Sixth Schedule and preparation of new voter lists.

The APHLC stated that the protest aims to protect tribal rights, safeguard constitutional guarantees, and preserve indigenous identity. The organization emphasized that the Sixth Schedule provisions must be respected and that the long-standing demand for greater autonomy should be addressed without further delay.

Leaders and supporters from various hill communities are expected to participate in the demonstration, which is likely to draw significant public attention in Diphu.

771 People Leave Congress and APHLC, Join BJP in Karbi Anglong East

Diphu, May 30, 2026: In a significant political development, a total of 771 people, including several leaders and supporters from the Congress and APHLC, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a Mass Joining Programme held at the Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Auditorium Hall in Diphu on Saturday.

The programme was organized by the BJP Karbi Anglong East District Committee and was attended by senior party leaders, office bearers, and a large number of supporters. The new members were welcomed into the party amid enthusiasm from BJP workers.

More than 3,700 grams of o***m was seized by police in Bokajan during a raid conducted at Sukhanjan main town along the highway side.

According to reports, police received information regarding the alleged illegal sale of o***m from a kutcha bamboo house where an elderly couple had been residing. Acting on the tip-off, police reached the location and carried out a search operation.

During the search, police recovered over 3.7 kilograms of suspected o***m from the house. A substantial amount of cash was also recovered from different locations inside the house. Police suspect that the seized money may have been earned through illegal activities related to the o***m trade.

Further investigation is currently underway.
