Viral Video Sparks Action in Kathua: SPO Disengaged After Alleged ₹100 Bribe at Lakhanpur Naka
Kathua, September 29 (TGE): In a major action against alleged corruption, the Kathua Police have disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service after a viral video purportedly showed him demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹100 from a truck driver while performing naka duty at Lakhanpur.

As per Order No. 768 of 2026, dated September 28, issued by the District Police Headquarters, Kathua, SPO Ameer-Ul-Din, No. 582/SPO-K, posted at Police Station Lakhanpur, has been disengaged from service with immediate effect.
The order states that the Deputy Superintendent of Police, DAR/DPL Kathua, forwarded a Daily Diary Report (DDR) extract of Police Station Lakhanpur, dated September 27, regarding the incident.
According to the report, the Station House Officer (SHO), Lakhanpur, received a video clip through WhatsApp from an unknown person. The video reportedly showed SPO Ameer-Ul-Din demanding and accepting ₹100 from an unidentified truck driver while deployed for naka checking duty at the Truck Terminal Point, Lakhanpur.
Taking serious note of the incident, the District Police Headquarters stated that the alleged misconduct amounted to a grave violation of discipline and could tarnish the image of the police department.
The order further directs the disengaged SPO to deposit all uniform articles, arms and am******on, if issued, with the concerned police units and stores.
Departmental Enquiry Ordered Against Three Police Personnel
Apart from the action against the SPO, the Kathua Police have ordered a departmental enquiry against three other personnel who were deployed at the same naka point.
The enquiry has been ordered against:
- HC Dhruv Singh, No. 1139/K, EXJ-995855
- ASI Gian Chand, No. ARP-89156
- Sgt Shamsher Singh, No. 319 of 19 JKAP IR
The three personnel have been accused of dereliction of duty and failure to report the alleged misconduct to senior officers.
The departmental enquiry has been entrusted to the SP (Operations), Border and Kandi, Kathua, who has been directed to conduct the proceedings under Rules 357 and 359 of the J&K Police Manual and submit findings along with specific recommendations at the earliest.
