Breaking News : Ceiling Crash at Dooru Town Hall During Drug-Free Society Program, Many Injured

Muneeb-ul-Islam

Anantnag, March 5, KNT: Several Asha workers sustained minor injuries after the ceiling of the conference hall at Dooru Town Hall in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district partially collapsed during a Programme on drug-free society organized by the Rural Development Department (RDD) on Thursday.

Officials said the programme was attended by employees from various departments including Education, Health and ICDS.

Witnesses said that in the middle of the Programme, a portion of the ceiling suddenly collapsed with a loud noise, triggering panic among the participants present in the hall.

Some female employees reportedly lost consciousness due to the shock, while several others suffered minor injuries.

The injured employees were shifted to a nearby hospital where they received first aid and were later discharged, officials said.

An official said that fortunately the ceiling did not fall directly onto the floor but remained hanging, which prevented what could have turned into a major tragedy.

“Had the ceiling fallen completely, the consequences could have been serious,” the official said.

Authorities said an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the incident. [KNT]

Cases Registered Against Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Junaid Azim Mattu for Alleged Circulation of Misleading Online Content

Srinagar, March 3: Srinagar Police has registered criminal cases against Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and former Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu for allegedly circulating false and misleading content on digital and social media platforms.

According to an official statement, the action was taken following credible inputs regarding the dissemination of fabricated and distorted narratives intended to create fear, disturb public order, and potentially incite unlawful activities.

Police said that the content in question, prima facie, involved the spread of unverified information capable of triggering public unrest and societal disharmony. Authorities termed such actions as a serious threat to peace, security, and overall stability.

In this connection, FIR No. 02/2026 and FIR No. 03/2026 have been registered under Sections 197(1)(d) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Cyber Police Station, Srinagar. Investigations into both cases have been initiated and are currently underway.

Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining public peace and law & order, urging citizens to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing any content online. The statement further warned against circulating unverified material that could disturb communal harmony or public order.

Police added that further legal action will follow as warranted under the law.
