Discussion focuses on Chenab Valley's political challenges and development needs

Srinagar, July 31, 2025:
Senior political leader and former Member of Legislative Assembly from Doda, Ghulam Qadir Wani, held an important meeting today with Dr. Farooq Abdullah, senior leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and former Chief Minister of the Union Territory.

The meeting took place at Dr. Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar, where both leaders engaged in a detailed discussion on the socio-political situation of the Chenab Valley, including the regions of Doda, Bhaderwah, and Kishtwar.

According to sources, Ghulam Qadir Wani briefed Dr. Farooq Abdullah on various public issues, such as lack of basic infrastructure, employment concerns among the youth, and the growing need for political representation. Dr. Abdullah, while expressing concern over the current scenario, emphasized that the National Conference has always stood for the rights of the people, development of all regions, and the protection of democratic values in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting is being seen by political observers as a strategic move ahead of possible future elections and as a signal of increased political activity in the Chenab region.

Today, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad Sahib,
former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, met with Shri Manoj Sinha Ji, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Jammu and Kashmir, UT and discussed with him various issues concerning the people of the Jammu and Kashmir.

One of the long-pending demand was the construction of Chenab House for the people of the erstwhile Doda District, comprising Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban. The project has been delayed for more than a decade. Notably, 5 kanals of land were allotted at Channi Rama, Jammu in 2008 during the tenure of Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad as the Chief Minister of the then State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chenab House was proposed to provide temporary lodging facilities to patients and attendants referred to Jammu for emergency medical treatment, as well as accommodation for poor and needy students visiting Jammu to appear in various examinations.

Furthermore, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor was requested to consider initiating a similar project for the residents of remote and hilly areas like Tangdar and Gurez, which remain cut off from the rest of Jammu and Kashmir for more than six months each year.
