Anantnag Police Arrested a Drug Peddler at Kokernag; Contraband Seized

Anantnag, August 3, 2025: Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and peddling, Anantnag Police has achieved another success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering a significant quantity of contraband from his possession.

A police party from Police Station Kokernag, during a routine naka checking at Soaf Shali, apprehended one individual identified as Nissar Ahmad Gagroo, son of Ali Mohammad Gagroo, resident of Soaf Shali. Upon search, 450 grams of Charas powder was recovered from his possession.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 84/2025 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kokernag, and further investigation has been initiated.

Anantnag Police remains committed to making the district drug-free and urges the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug peddling or abuse. The identity of informers will be kept confidential.

Acting on complaint by residents of Shutroo Larnoo regarding encroachment on public pathway by the land owners, today on 31.07.2025 at 6:15 am a joint team of *revenue department, J&K police and CRPF assisted by KPDCL* visited the spot and conducted an intensive *3 hour long anti-encroachment drive* whereby the illegal structures raised along the public pathway were demolished.

It’s pertinent to mention here that a similar drive was carried on same spot few months ago and encroachers were served notice to remove the remaining encroachment on their own. However failing to comply with the direction of the office of Tehsildar Larnoo, an anti-encroachment drive was carried out again and all remaining encroachment was removed.

*The encroachers of state land are warned to remove the encroachment on their own failing which the law shall prevail and no laxity will be given.*

25-Year-Old Man Dies in Tyre Blast Incident in Kulgam’s Devsar

Kulgam, July 30 : A tragic incident occurred in Devsar area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday afternoon when a 25-year-old man lost his life in a tyre blast while repairing it, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Najar, son of Gh Rasool Najar, a resident of Bozgam.

According to officials, the unfortunate incident took place while Imtiyaz was repairing a tyre, during which it suddenly exploded, causing him critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to PHC Devsar, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Soon after the incident, police reached the spot and have taken cognizance of the matter.(File photo)

Teacher Killed, 9 Injured in Handwara Bus Accident

Handwara, July 30 : A bus met with an accident in Behnipora Rajwar area of Handwara on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and nine others injured, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Lone, a local teacher who died on the spot.

The injured were rushed to GMC Handwara for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable.–
