Activist Raja Shakeel Condemns J&K Government's Move to Reduce RBA Quota*

BY ABID PAMPORI

DODA, October 20, 2025 — Social activist Raja Shakeel has strongly condemned the Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to reduce or eliminate the Resident of Backward Area (RBA) quota, calling it a grave injustice to the people of remote regions, particularly the Chenab Valley

Shakeel stated that the previous administration had already reduced the RBA quota by 10 percent, and its complete termination is a direct attack on the Chenabi youth's future. "It was this very quota that opened doors for our local youth to become doctors, KAS officers, engineers, teachers, and professionals in various fields," he said.

He warned that the decision would severely impact the Chenabi youth and called for unified resistance. "We will not stay silent. The Chenabi people must unite and raise their voice against this injustice. Instead of reducing it, the government should increase the RBA quota to 20 percent to ensure fair representation and equal opportunities for our backward regions," Shakeel added.

Shakeel emphasized that the Chenab Valley, as a backward area, deserves special reservations for the upliftment of the Chenabi people, and tampering with the already reduced RBA quota is unacceptable.
