*Hans Foundation Organises Cataract Surgery Camp at SDH Bhaderwah; 98 Surgeries Performed on Day One*

Bhaderwah, October 13:

In a significant initiative to provide accessible eye care services to the people, the Hans Foundation, under its Drishti Eye Care Mission, has been conducting eye screening camps in various areas of Medical Block Bhaderwah from October 6, 2026, onwards.

During these camps, patients from several villages have been screened for cataract and identified for surgical intervention to ensure timely treatment and improved vision.

The cataract surgeries commenced today at Sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah, where the surgical programme was formally inaugurated by Block Medical Officer Bhaderwah, Dr. Versha Sharma, in the presence of representatives of the Hans Foundation.

On the first day of the surgical camp, a total of 98 cataract surgeries were successfully conducted by the medical team of the Hans Foundation, marking a significant step towards providing quality eye care services to the people of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, BMO Bhaderwah, Dr. Versha Sharma, informed that the cataract surgeries will continue at SDH Bhaderwah up to October 15, 2026, and the programme is scheduled to conclude on October 16, 2026.

The initiative aims to facilitate timely cataract treatment for patients, particularly those residing in remote and rural areas, by bringing specialised eye care services closer to their doorsteps.

The Health Department appreciated the efforts of the Hans Foundation and its Drishti Eye Care team for their contribution towards improving access to eye care services and enhancing the quality of life of patients in Medical Block Bhaderwah.

GDC Doda Observes International Day of the Girl Child with an Inspiring Interaction Programme

Doda::Government Degree College Doda, through its Alumni Committee, organised an inspiring interaction programme today to observe the International Day of the Girl Child 2026, centred on the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights.” The programme aimed to sensitise students about girls’ rights, the importance of education, gender equality and the need to create an enabling environment for girls to realise their full potential.
The programme featured Ms Nazish Nawaz (JKPS), Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jammu and a proud alumna of GDC Doda as guest speaker. Her professional journeys and personal experiences provided an inspiring platform for meaningful interaction with students particularly on the importance of perseverance, self-confidence, education and professional commitment.
During the interaction, the speaker highlighted the significance of safeguarding the rights of the girl child and addressing social practices such as child marriage, which adversely affect girls’ education, health, dignity and opportunities. She emphasised that investing in girls’ education and empowerment is essential for building an equitable, progressive, and inclusive society. She also encouraged students to pursue their aspirations with determination, develop a strong sense of responsibility and contribute positively to society.
The interaction with Ms Nazish Nawaz was particularly significant as she returned to her alma mater in her capacity as a police officer, offering students a motivating example of how dedication, hard work and perseverance can translate aspirations into achievement.
The programme provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with accomplished professionals, seek guidance and reflect on the role of education in promoting gender justice and social transformation. It also reinforced the importance of alumni engagement in mentoring students and strengthening the relationship between an institution and its former students.
Dr Jamsheed Ahmad Convener, GDC Doda Alumni Committee, coordinated and managed the programme. The initiative reflected the college’s continued commitment to student empowerment, gender sensitisation and the creation of an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
The programme concluded with felicitation of Ms Nazish Nawaz in which she was presented with a memento of appreciation and affection.

*CMO Doda Conducts Surprise Inspection of PHC Assar*

Doda, October 10:

Chief Medical Officer Doda, Dr. Vinod Sharma, conducted a surprise inspection of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Assar to assess the functioning of the health facility and review the delivery of healthcare services.

During the inspection, the CMO visited various sections of the hospital and examined the availability and maintenance of records. He also checked staff attendance and interacted with the on-duty staff to review the functioning of different sections and assess the delivery of patient care services.

Block Medical Officer Assar, Dr. Syed Mohd Ismail was also present during the inspection and briefed the CMO about the overall functioning of the health facility, the availability of healthcare services, and other related matters.

The visit was aimed at ensuring accountability among healthcare personnel, maintaining proper documentation, and improving the quality of healthcare services provided to the public.

The CMO emphasized the importance of punctuality, dedication and responsibility among healthcare staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the health institution and the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people.

*World Mental Health Day 2026 Observed Across District Doda*

Doda, October 10:

World Mental Health Day 2026 was observed across all medical blocks of District Doda, including the district headquarter, by the Health Department on October 10, 2026, under this year’s theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.” The observance aimed to raise awareness about mental health, promote open conversations, and highlight the importance of listening to individuals with lived experiences of mental health conditions.

At the district headquarter, an awareness programme was organised at the Conference Hall of the CMO) Office Doda, under the chairmanship of CMO Doda, Dr. Vinod Sharma. Deputy CMO Doda, Dr. Sat Lal Manhas, along with other officers and officials of the Health Department, staff of ANMT School Doda, and nursing students, participated in the programme.

On the occasion, CMO Doda, Dr. Vinod Sharma, delivered an awareness lecture highlighting the importance of mental health, early identification of mental health concerns, and the need to eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health conditions. He emphasised the importance of providing compassionate support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges and encouraging them to seek professional help whenever required.

The theme of this year’s observance underscored the significance of listening to the experiences of people living with mental health conditions and ensuring that their voices contribute to improving awareness, understanding, and mental healthcare services.

Similar awareness programmes were organised across all medical blocks including Assar, Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Ghat and Thathri and various health facilities of the district, where healthcare staff participated in activities aimed at sensitising the public about mental health, promoting psychological well-being, and encouraging people to seek timely assistance.

Through these district-wide activities, the Health Department Doda reaffirmed its commitment to promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and strengthening community participation in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals facing mental health challenges.

*KVK Doda Organises Scientific Exposure Tour for 60 Students of HSS Chinta; Promotes Modern Agriculture and Career Opportunities*

BHADERWAH, OCTOBER 09:- In an effort to bridge the gap between classroom education and practical farming, around 60 students of Government Higher Secondary School (HSS), Chinta, accompanied by their teachers, visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Doda, for a one-day scientific exposure tour aimed at familiarising them with modern agricultural practices, technological advancements and emerging career opportunities in the agriculture sector.

The visit was designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences, technical knowledge and career guidance, enabling them to understand the growing relevance of scientific agriculture and its potential for entrepreneurship and employment.

The students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Amit Singh Charak, Chief Scientist and Head, KVK Doda, along with his team of expert scientists.

During an interactive session, Dr. Charak highlighted the pivotal role of KVK as a Farmer’s Science Centre, serving as a vital link between laboratory research and field-level application. He briefed the students on the importance of adopting scientific methods and innovative technologies to improve agricultural productivity and promote sustainable farming.

The students were given detailed insights and live demonstrations on modern agricultural technologies, integrated farming systems, organic farming, nursery management and high-tech polyhouse cultivation. The practical exposure enabled them to gain first-hand knowledge of innovative farming techniques and the role of scientific interventions in transforming the agriculture sector.

A key highlight of the programme was the career guidance session, during which students were informed about the diverse opportunities available in agriculture beyond conventional farming. These include careers as agricultural scientists and officers, agri-entrepreneurs, and the establishment of agriculture-based startups.

Encouraging the students to explore the sector's entrepreneurial potential, Dr. Charak urged them to become job providers rather than job seekers by embracing innovation, modern agricultural technologies and agri-based entrepreneurship.

The staff and students of HSS Chinta expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Amit Singh Charak and his team for the informative session, practical demonstrations and guided tour of various demonstration units at KVK Doda. They observed that the exposure visit had been an enriching learning experience that would help broaden students’ understanding of agriculture and motivate them to explore promising career paths in the sector.

_Agristack, Digitisation of Land Records and Jamabandis Reviewed; Emphasis on Timely Completion

DODA, OCTOBER 9:- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda, Sh. Krishan Lal, along with Transport Commissioner J&K, Sh. Vishesh Mahajan, who is also the Mentor for the digitization of land records for district Doda, today chaired a review meeting regarding digitization of land records and Agristack and creation of farmer IDs at Conference Hall, DC Office Complex, Doda, to assess progress.

The meeting focused on the progress of Agristack implementation, digitisation of land records, updation of Jamabandis, creation of farmer IDs, disposal of pending mutation cases and other important matters concerning revenue administration.

During the meeting, the officers reviewed the status of ongoing work and discussed measures to ensure accuracy and transparency in land records, improve administrative efficiency and strengthen public service delivery. Emphasis was laid on expediting pending cases, adhering to prescribed timelines and ensuring effective coordination among revenue officials.

DC Doda, Sh. Krishan Lal, stressed the need for maintaining accurate, updated and transparent revenue records to ensure efficient public service delivery and timely resolution of public grievances. He directed the revenue officers to closely monitor the progress of ongoing initiatives, expedite the disposal of pending mutation cases and ensure the timely updation of Jamabandis and land records. He further emphasized that all concerned's officials must discharge their responsibilities with utmost diligence and accountability, ensuring that the implementation of Agristack and other digitisation initiatives is completed within the stipulated timelines.

Transport Commissioner Sh. Vishesh Mahajan also reviewed the physical Jamabandis and examined the status of revenue records. He directed the Patwaris concerned to expedite the work, identify and rectify deficiencies in the records and ensure that necessary corrections and updates are completed within the stipulated timeline.

Transport Commissioner further reviewed the progress of Agristack implementats n and the status of data on the portal. He stressed the need for timely completion of assigned tasks and directed the concerned officials to ensure the accuracy, completeness and proper updating of information on the portal.

The meeting was attended by ADC Doda Sh. Anil Kumar Thakur, ACR Doda Sh. Ashraf Parvaz, Tehsildars, Chief Agriculture Officer Doda, Naib Tehsildars, Patwaris and other concerned revenue officials.

*SDH Bhaderwah Marks World Sight Day 2026, Promotes Eye Health and Vision Care*

BHADERWAH, OCTOBER 09: Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah observed the 27th World Sight Day 2026 under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer, Doda, Dr. Vinod Sharma, and the supervision of Block Medical Officer, Bhaderwah, Dr. Versha Sharma.

The programme was organised around this year’s theme, “Love Your Eyes,” to raise public awareness about the importance of eye health, regular eye examinations and timely treatment of vision-related problems.

On the occasion, awareness activities were conducted to sensitise patients and attendants about common eye diseases, preventive measures and the importance of maintaining good eye health. The participants were encouraged to seek timely medical advice and undergo regular eye check-ups to prevent avoidable vision impairment.

Eye screening of beneficiaries was carried out by the concerned health staff including Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Senior Ophthalmic Technician & Mr. Raju Kumar, Senior Ophthalmic Technician, to facilitate the early identification of vision-related problems. Spectacles were also distributed among eligible beneficiaries as part of the programme.

The health staff emphasised that regular eye examinations, early detection and appropriate treatment play a vital role in protecting eyesight and reducing the risk of avoidable visual impairment.

District-Level Role Play and Folk Dance Competition Organised by DIET Doda.

Doda, October 09-The District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET), Doda, in collaboration with SCERT Jammu and the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), organised a District-Level Role Play and Folk Dance Competition for the academic session 2026–27 at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Doda. Students from seven educational zones of the district participated in the event, showcasing their creativity, talent and rich cultural heritage.

The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sh. Bhushan Kumar Pathak, Chief Education Officer, Doda, along with Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Principal DIET Doda, in the presence of the Principals of Government Higher Secondary School Boys, Doda, and Government Higher Secondary School Jodhpur. The event was organised under the guidance of the Principal, DIET Doda, with Sh. Farooq Ahmed, Head Assistant, serving as the District Nodal Officer.

Students selected from different educational zones delivered impressive performances through role plays and folk dances, demonstrating their artistic abilities, confidence and awareness of important social issues.

The role-play segment focused on around ten to eleven themes related to adolescence education and social awareness, including social and mental well-being, safe and responsible internet use, gender equality, reproductive health, environmental protection and other issues of contemporary relevance. Through their performances, students conveyed meaningful messages promoting informed decision-making, responsible behaviour and a healthy social environment.

The folk dance segment provided students with a vibrant platform to showcase the rich cultural traditions of Jammu and Kashmir and the country. Through traditional dances, music, customs, rituals, stories and indigenous musical instruments, participants highlighted India's diverse cultural heritage while strengthening their connection with their cultural roots.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal DIET emphasised the importance of educational and co-curricular activities in nurturing creativity, confidence, critical thinking and social awareness among students. He observed that such initiatives help students appreciate their cultural roots and traditional values while developing a deeper sense of identity and belonging.

CEO appreciated the enthusiastic participation and commendable performances of the students. He also lauded the efforts of DIET Doda, the organising team, school heads and teachers for providing students with a meaningful platform to express their talents and learn beyond the classroom. He emphasised that such activities play a vital role in the holistic development of students by promoting cultural awareness, self-confidence, social responsibility and essential life skills.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation and healthy interaction among students from the participating educational zones. The event successfully blended experiential learning with cultural expression and social awareness, reaffirming the commitment of the School Education Department to the holistic development of students.
