Durgapur's CSIR-CMERI (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute) developed Beam Catcher Unit - a critical component of the Super Fragment Separator.

The development is an achievement as the unit is indigenously built and contributed to one of the world's largest international mega science projects.

Sad Reality - Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri never made into the list.

Eat, Sleep and Drink only Kolkata.

Several non-metro cities from other states got featured in India Skills Report (2014 to 2025). In West Bengal only Kolkata qualified.

Time and again reports show that Tier 2 city development matters a lot AND only population factor does not help in achieving goals.

Between 2014–2025, Kolkata was the only city from the state to crack India’s top 10 most employable cities — and even that presence was inconsistent as Kolkata featured just twice among the most preferred cities for work (2022 & 2023), ranking 8th both times.
