Police on Tuesday claimed to have seized a huge cache of ammunition during searches in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The spokesman in a statement said that on Monday Pulwama Police launched searches in village Dangerpora Arihal and during searches a huge quantity of explosive materials was recovered from the house of Bilal Ahmad Ganai, including a detonating material, connecting wires, electric chargers, batteries, mobile phones and remote control activating devices and some of the seized items were marked with symbols of Pakistan.
Separately searches were also carried at village Naina Batapora and during searches, a Chinese pistol, 7 live rounds 9 mm, 01 magazines and 01 7.62 mm round was recovered from the possession of Sabzar Ahmad Mir resident of Khellan.
Subsequently, cases were registered in both the seizures and the accused persons were taken in custody for further investigation.

Pulwama: A police today claimed to have busted two hideouts of militants in Pulwama district. In a statement Police said that it received an information through reliable sources that militant 2-3 in number are hiding in the house of Bilal Ahmad Ganie S/O Mohd. Ahsan Ganie R/O Dangerpora Arihal. Accordingly a CASO was launched by Pulwama Police, 55-RR and 182,183 BN CRPF in the above mentioned village and a thorough search was conducted.

Srinagar: Hundreds of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers Tuesday staged a protest near Residence Road in Srinagar and demanded implementation of salary as per 7th Pay Commission. The protesting teachers said that the government is targeting only SSA teachers. They said that due to negligent approach of government they were forced to hit streets. Later, the Police used coloured water cannons to disperse the protesting teachers. (KNS)

Jammu: A soldier allegedly committed su***de by shooting himself with his service rifle in a camp near the Line of Control (LoC) here, the police said today. Rifleman Ranbir Singh (28) was on guard duty at Hamirpur Nawan Military Garrison in Khour area of Akhnoor sector when he shot himself in the forehead yesterday, causing his instant death, a police official said. The body of the deceased, who hailed from Punjab, was handed over to his unit after completion of medical and legal formalities.
