Namchi Advances SIR 2026 Exercise Through Extensive Door-to-Door Enumeration Campaign

Namchi, 9 June (IPR): The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, being undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a comprehensive, accurate and inclusive electoral roll, continued to progress steadily across Namchi District on the eleventh day of the Enumeration Forms (EFs) distribution phase.

As part of the ongoing exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) distributed a total of 4604 Enumeration Forms throughout the district through systematic door-to-door outreach. The initiative forms a critical component of the electoral roll revision process, aimed at verifying and updating voter records to maintain a reliable and error-free electoral database.

During their field visits, BLOs have been engaging directly with electors and assisting them in reviewing and updating key particulars, including names, age, residential addresses, photographs and Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. The exercise seeks to enhance the accuracy of electoral records while ensuring that every eligible citizen is appropriately represented in the democratic process.

As per the prescribed schedule, the house-to-house verification drive will continue until 28 June 2026. During this period, BLOs will undertake both the distribution and collection of Enumeration Forms while carrying out detailed verification of elector information at the grassroots level.

The District Election Office, Namchi, has appealed to all eligible electors to extend their full cooperation to BLOs during their visits and to submit duly completed Enumeration Forms within the stipulated timeframe. The office emphasised that active public participation remains essential for the successful completion of the revision exercise and the preparation of a credible and updated electoral roll.

Further strengthening the process, recognised political parties are actively participating through their Booth Level Agents (BLAs), who are providing support at the field level. Their involvement contributes to enhanced transparency, accountability and stakeholder participation, thereby reinforcing public confidence in the electoral roll revision exercise.

Sikkim Utsav Concludes After Celebrating Entrepreneurship and Cultural Diversity

Gangtok, June 7 (IPR): The Gangtok Chapter of Sikkim Utsav, organised by the Commerce and Industries Department under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), concluded today at MG Marg, Gangtok, following three days of exhibitions, cultural programmes, and public engagement.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents, tourists, entrepreneurs, artisans, self-help groups, and representatives of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), making MG Marg a vibrant platform for showcasing Sikkim's entrepreneurial potential and cultural heritage.

Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Ms Karma D Youtso, in her brief address, expressed her gratitude to all the stakeholders for their contribution in executing the three-day festival successfully. She also highlighted the handholding initiatives undertaken by the Department in ensuring that local entrepreneurs receive a platform to scale their businesses to national and international levels.

Throughout the three-day programme, local entrepreneurs, artisans, and MSMEs showcased a diverse range of products, services, handicrafts, handloom products, traditional artefacts, artworks, and innovations, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore the State's growing entrepreneurial landscape. The exhibition served as a platform for promoting local enterprises, facilitating market exposure, and creating awareness about products developed and manufactured within the State.

The concluding day featured a series of cultural performances by artists representing various communities of Sikkim. Traditional folk dances, musical presentations, and cultural displays highlighted the rich heritage and cultural diversity of the State, drawing appreciation from residents and tourists alike.

A cultural fashion show showcasing the traditional attire, ornaments, customs, and cultural traditions of Sikkim's various communities was among the major attractions of the event. Participants presented traditional costumes representing different ethnic communities of the State, offering visitors an insight into Sikkim's diverse cultural heritage and traditions passed down through generations.

The event attracted a significant number of visitors to MG Marg, with tourists actively engaging with exhibitors, cultural performers, and local entrepreneurs. Visitors explored the exhibition stalls, interacted with artisans and entrepreneurs, appreciated the handicrafts and locally made products on display, and enjoyed the cultural performances and fashion showcase.

The programme was attended by the Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Ms Karma D Youtso, along with the Director, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, Mr M Ravi Kumar, Director, DHH, Mr Tshering Topgay Bhutia, OSD, Commerce and Industries Department, Mr Dipen S***a, and Joint Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Ms Champa Sharma. Invited guests, local entrepreneurs, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The successful conclusion of the Gangtok Chapter of Sikkim Utsav marked another step towards promoting entrepreneurship, supporting local enterprises, and celebrating the State's rich cultural heritage.

Namchi District Marks World Bicycle Day with ‘Sundays on Cycle’ Initiative

Namchi, June 7 (IPR): Namchi district observed World Bicycle Day with enthusiasm through a cycling event organised under the theme “Sundays on Cycle” by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), STC Namchi, in collaboration with MY Bharat and the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Namchi.

The occasion witnessed the participation of a large number of officers, students and cycling enthusiasts, who took part in a cycling rally aimed at promoting fitness, environmental sustainability and healthy living.

In addition to the rally, a series of sporting activities were organised, including a 100-metre sprint for boys, a 60-metre sprint for girls, a women’s walkathon and passing-the-ball competition for women.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Ruben Pradhan, In-charge, STC Namchi, highlighted the significance of the bicycle as a simple, affordable, reliable and environmentally sustainable mode of transport. He stated that cycling complements the broader Fit India Movement by encouraging greater youth participation in physical activity and contributing towards the vision of a fitter and healthier nation.

He further emphasised that cycling offers numerous physical health benefits and can be enjoyed by individuals across all age groups.

Adding vibrancy to the programme, a Zumba demonstration was also presented, encouraging participants to engage in enjoyable physical activity while reinforcing the importance of fitness and an active lifestyle.

78,682 Enumeration Forms Distributed Across Gangtok District Under SIR 2026

Gangtok, June 7 (IPR): The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of Electoral Rolls is progressing steadily across Gangtok District, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting door-to-door distribution of Enumeration Forms for the preparation of an accurate and inclusive electoral roll.

Demonstrating strong commitment, BLOs are reaching households across urban and rural areas of Gangtok District, often navigating challenging terrain and monsoon conditions, to ensure that every eligible elector is covered under the revision exercise.

As per the status report as of today, a cumulative total of 78,682 Enumeration Forms has been distributed across the district, covering 64.37 per cent of the total electorate of 1,22,240 electors.

The constituency-wise distribution of Enumeration Forms is as follows:

16-Tumen-Lingi: 12,409

17-Khamdong-Singtam: 9,237

23-Shyari: 10,526

24-Martam-Rumtek: 14,585

25-Upper Tadong: 7,353

26-Arithang: 7,187

27-Gangtok: 6,637

28-Upper Burtuk: 8,734

32-Sangha: 2,014

A total of 182 BLOs have been deployed for the exercise. Additionally, 4,603 Enumeration Forms have been digitised, while 397 forms have been submitted by electors and are pending verification by BLOs.

The distribution and collection of Enumeration Forms will continue till June 28, 2026.Electors are encouraged to cooperate with BLOs and submit duly filled forms within the stipulated period to ensure the smooth conduct of the revision process.

DC Namchi Inspects EMRS Suntaley, Reviews Infrastructure and Academic Performance

Namchi, 8 April (IPR): Under the supervision of the District Collector Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling, a field inspection was conducted at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Suntaley, to assess the overall functioning of the institution and review the progress of ongoing developmental works and essential facilities, today.

During the visit, the District Collector first inspected the water source in light of the reported shortage of water and reviewed the progress of the ongoing water supply works being undertaken for the school.

The inspection also covered several key infrastructure projects, including fencing works, staff quarters, the auditorium hall, football ground pavilion.

She further examined the main gate of the school, which was found to be incomplete and not in an appropriate design. Necessary directions were issued for its timely completion with suitable modifications.

The school mess was also inspected to assess the quality of food being served to the students. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining proper hygiene standards and ensuring the provision of nutritious meals for the children.

During the visit, she checked all school registers and official records and directed the Principal to remain vigilant and ensure that all records are properly maintained and updated on a regular basis.

Following a request made by the Student Captain Council, she interacted directly with the students to understand their concerns, grievances, and suggestions. The students openly shared their issues and recommendations regarding school facilities and overall management.

She encouraged and motivated the Captain Council to work collectively towards making the school one of the best among EMRS institutions in Sikkim. Students were also advised to actively participate in maintaining discipline, cleanliness, and the overall upkeep of the campus.

Special emphasis was placed on cleanliness and beautification of the school premises through plantation drives and proper maintenance of hostels, particularly the girls’ hostel, which was directed to be kept clean and well-maintained at all times.

It was also brought to notice that medical camps, which had earlier been conducted regularly within the school campus, had not been organised for nearly a month. In response, She assured that a general health camp would be arranged shortly for the benefit of both students and staff.

Furthermore, she directed the principal to ensure proper segregation and management of solid waste. She also instructed the Director (RDD) to facilitate the construction of a compost pit within the school premises for effective waste disposal and better waste management practices.

She also interacted with the teaching staff and expressed concern over the unsatisfactory Class X examination results. She urged the teachers to take greater responsibility and work closely with the Principal to improve the academic performance of the school in the coming academic session.

Present during the inspection were the SDM (HQ), Welfare Officer, Divisional Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineer from Social Welfare Department, Panchayat President, Deputy Director RDD Sumbuk, Principal EMRS, Social Welfare Inspector, and Contractor.

Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Golay Said It was a pleasure to receive and meet the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya Ji, who is currently in Siliguri to attend an event organised by Dainik Jagran.

During his tenure as the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, he served as a guiding force and a guardian for both the government and the people of the state. His wisdom, warmth, and steadfast commitment to public service left a lasting impression on all of us.

Fresh snowfall continued across the higher-altitude areas of Sikkim on Saturday, affecting movement in the upper mountainous regions.

The JN Road in East Sikkim remains open and clear for vehicular traffic up to the 15th Mile.

However, roads leading to Tsomgo Lake and Nathu La remain closed due to snow accumulation and safety concerns.

Travelers are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on the latest road conditions before planning their journey.

Chief Minister Meets Meghalaya Media Delegation on Exposure Visit to Sikkim

Gangtok, March 11: Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, met a media delegation from Meghalaya currently on a six-day exposure visit to Sikkim.

The delegation comprised ten members representing eight media houses from Meghalaya along with two officials from the Press Information Bureau, Shillong. The team was accompanied by Mr Manas Sarma, Smt. Annapurna Alley, IPR Secretary, Mr Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Mr Sunil Mothey.

During the interaction, the Chief Minister highlighted the Government of Sikkim’s key development initiatives, with particular emphasis on sustainable growth, organic farming, and environmental conservation that have strengthened Sikkim’s identity as the Green State of the Nation.

The discussion also covered the implementation of welfare schemes and the progress of infrastructure development across vital sectors such as health, education, rural development, and tourism.
