Centre Approves Melli–Singtam Highway Project-

The Centre has cleared the Melli–Singtam Greenfield highway proposal, designating NHIDCL as the executing agency. The new internal route aims to bypass the dependency on West Bengal’s NH10 stretch for access to Gangtok. This decision follows the Sikkim government’s request in April 2025 for alternate intra-state connectivity.

With land acquisition now a priority, the project is expected to address long-standing logistical gaps while enhancing regional mobility across South and East Sikkim.
