Lingmoo's Screaming Eagles Crowned SICA Men's D Division Champions
Pakyong, Sikkim: Representing the village of Lingmoo under the Rangang–Yangang Constituency in Namchi District, Screaming Eagles scripted a remarkable success story by defeating Press Club of Sikkim by eight wickets to lift the SICA Men's D Division Championship and secure promotion to the C Division.
The achievement is particularly significant as the team hails from an area with limited sports infrastructure and training facilities. Despite these challenges, the young cricketers of Lingmoo have continued to progress steadily in Sikkim's competitive cricket circuit, proving that determination, teamwork, and passion can overcome infrastructural constraints.
Winning the toss and electing to field, Screaming Eagles produced a disciplined bowling performance to dismiss Press Club of Sikkim for 127 runs in 18.4 overs.
Press Club appeared set for a much larger total after reaching 98/3 in the 13th over, thanks largely to a blistering knock of 64 runs from 29 balls by Ashok Pradhan. However, his dismissal triggered a dramatic collapse as the remaining wickets fell cheaply.
Arun Niroula emerged as the star performer with the ball, claiming outstanding figures of 4 wickets for 14 runs in 3.4 overs. Anish Chettri provided excellent support with 3 wickets for 30 runs. A crucial catch by Anish off Arun's bowling removed the dangerous Ashok Pradhan and shifted the momentum firmly in favour of Screaming Eagles.
In reply, Screaming Eagles chased down the target comfortably in 16.3 overs. Openers Anuj Chettri and Bal Krishna Chettri laid a strong foundation with an 81-run opening partnership in just eight overs. Anuj scored 41 runs, while Bal Krishna contributed 32 runs, putting their team on course for a memorable victory.
For his match-winning bowling display, Arun Niroula was adjudged Player of the Match. Screaming Eagles' Manoj Chettri received the Highest Wicket Taker award, while Anuj Chettri was named Player of the Tournament.
The prize presentation ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Smt. Prabha Pradhan, Zilla Upadhyaksha, Pakyong, and Guest of Honour Smt. Annapurna Alley, Secretary, Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Sikkim.
Alongside finalists Screaming Eagles and Press Club of Sikkim, semi-finalists Toong Naga Cricket Club and Khorong Cricket Club also earned promotion to the C Division.
The D Division tournament began at the district level before progressing to the state stage, with 80 teams from all six districts of Sikkim participating in the competition.
The triumph of Screaming Eagles stands as a proud moment not only for Lingmoo but for the entire Rangang–Yangang Constituency. Their continued rise in Sikkim cricket reflects the growing sporting talent emerging from rural areas and serves as an inspiration to young athletes across the state.
