Sikkim Participates in Review Meeting for the 39th National Games 2027 in Shillong
Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, presided over a review meeting in Shillong on Saturday to evaluate the preparations for the 39th National Games 2027.
The meeting was also graced by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Smt. Raksha Khadse
Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India, Meghalaya Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, Indian Olympic Association President P. T. Usha, senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, and representatives from the North Eastern states.
In light of the increased participation from various states in hosting the games, the Union Minister emphasized that the National Games should prioritize talent identification and scouting.
"The National Games should also serve as a platform for raising awareness about Doping. Athletes must be informed about the ill effects of Doping," he remarked. Dr. Mandaviya also suggested that volunteers from MY Bharat be involved during the National Games in Meghalaya.
During the meeting, stakeholders assessed the progress of infrastructure development, venue readiness, coordination mechanisms, and other preparatory measures related to the forthcoming National Games 2027.
Dr. R. B. Biswakarma, Director of SYA, along with the President of the Sikkim Olympic Association, Shri Chewang Zangpo Bhutia, and General Secretary, Shri Jaslal Pradhan, an Olympian and Arjuna Awardee in Boxing, represented the State Government at the meeting.
