PRESS RELEASE
Singtam Police Station
East Sikkim District
For the Month of April 2026

Singtam Police Station continues to remain steadfast in its commitment towards maintaining law and order, while simultaneously addressing the growing concern of substance abuse within the community through a balanced approach of enforcement and rehabilitation.

During the month of April 2026, Singtam Police undertook sustained efforts to combat the menace of drug abuse and illegal trafficking of contraband substances in and around its jurisdiction. Acting on credible information, regular surveillance, and coordinated field operations, the police team maintained strict vigilance to curb such unlawful activities.

Under the strict supervision of SHO, Shri Kishor Kumar Chettri, Singtam Police Station, these initiatives were carried out in a focused and result-oriented manner, ensuring both preventive and corrective measures were effectively implemented on the ground.

As part of its proactive and humanitarian approach, a total of 48 individuals identified as substance users were successfully counseled, processed, and sent to various recognized rehabilitation centres for detoxification and recovery. This initiative reflects the department’s strong belief that addiction is not merely a legal issue but also a social and health concern that requires care, intervention, and structured rehabilitation.

In addition to these rehabilitation efforts, Singtam Police also registered one criminal case under relevant provisions of law in connection with illegal possession and trafficking of contraband substances. In this case, one accused was promptly apprehended and arrested, demonstrating the department’s zero-tolerance policy against drug peddlers and those involved in unlawful activities.

The dual approach adopted by Singtam Police—strict enforcement against offenders and compassionate rehabilitation for victims of substance abuse—has yielded positive outcomes and continues to strengthen community trust and cooperation.

Singtam Police extends its sincere gratitude to the general public, community leaders, and various stakeholders for their continuous support and cooperation in this collective fight against drugs. The department further appeals to all citizens to remain vigilant and to share any information related to drug abuse or illegal activities, assuring that such information will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

Singtam Police remains committed to building a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
