We express our profound sorrow at the demise of Ren Athup Lepcha, former MLA of Dzongu and a distinguished leader of the Lepcha community. Ren Athup Lepcha’s political journey was marked by courage, integrity, and dedication to the people of Sikkim. His historic victory in the 1979 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election and his service as the State Minister for Forest and Environment reflected his commitment to public life and governance.

Beyond politics, he will be remembered for his tireless advocacy for the environment and biodiversity of our state, most notably through his leadership of the Affected Citizens of Teesta (ACT). His lifelong efforts to safeguard the natural heritage of Sikkim have left an enduring legacy.

In his passing, Sikkim has lost a principled leader, a true guardian of nature, and a voice of the Lepcha community. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for peace to the departed soul.

It was truly an honour for me to have clicked a picture with our beloved Prince (Gyalsey) Palden Gurmed Namgyal.
Amidst all the outrage and noise over the recent incident in the Palace, at least we have received a formal apology from the Tsuklakhang Trustee — though an apology doesn’t erase what has already stirred the sentiments of the people.

Now, more than ever, we must remember the sacred bond of nang and masu — the eternal kinship between the Bhutia and Lepcha communities. Unity is not a choice, it is our very strength. Let us stand together, for bigger challenges like Delimitation are already looming on the horizon. And in this struggle, we must ensure that neither the majority becomes dominant over the minorities, nor the minorities are pushed into vulnerability.
