Samlik Kalyan Samaj Marks World Environment Day 2026 with Plantation and Cleanliness Drive

Samlik Kalyan Samaj celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a large-scale plantation and cleanliness drive at Samlik in collaboration with the Forest Department, Ranipool.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents of the village, with members from around 60 to 70 households joining the environmental initiative. Officials from the Ranipool Forest Department and local GPU Panchayat members also took part in the drive, demonstrating a collective commitment towards environmental conservation.

During the programme, participants cleaned forest areas where plantations had been carried out earlier and planted new saplings to further enhance the green cover of the locality. The event saw active public involvement, with villagers dedicating several hours to preserving and protecting nature.

A notable aspect of the programme was the strong sense of unity displayed by the community, as people worked together and shared the occasion in a spirit of cooperation and environmental responsibility.

Members of Samlik Kalyan Samaj stated that this was not their first social initiative. The organisation has been actively involved in various community welfare activities beyond the village, including drug awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives, and other social programmes. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such efforts in the future for the betterment of society and the environment.

आज युनाइटेड हिमालयन आर्गनाइजेशन को भव्य तथा समाजमुखी आयोजनामा सोनादा रेलवे स्टेशन परिसरमा “विश्व वातावरण दिवस २०२६” अत्यन्तै गरिमामय, चेतनामूलक तथा जनसहभागितामूलक वातावरणमा सम्पन्न गरियो। उक्त कार्यक्रमको प्रमुख उद्देश्य केवल औपचारिक रूपमा दिवस पालन गर्नु मात्र नभई, हिमाली भू–भाग, प्राकृतिक सम्पदा, जैविक विविधता तथा भावी पुस्ताको सुरक्षित अस्तित्वको निम्ति वातावरणीय संरक्षणप्रति जनमानसमा व्यापक जागरण तथा उत्तरदायित्वको भावना अभिवृद्धि गर्नु रहेको थियो।
यस ऐतिहासिक तथा प्रेरणादायी कार्यक्रममा जोनाथन खवास प्रमुख अतिथिको रूपमा उपस्थित भई वातावरणीय संरक्षण, हिमालयन पारिस्थितिक प्रणालीको संवेदनशीलता, जलवायु परिवर्तन, विश्व तापवृद्धि, वन विनाश तथा पारिस्थितिक असन्तुलन जस्ता गम्भीर विषयहरूमाथि गहन मन्तव्य व्यक्त गर्नुभयो। उहाँले आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा “यदि आज हामीले प्रकृतिको रक्षा गर्न असफल भयौं भने, भविष्यले हामीलाई कहिल्यै क्षमा गर्ने छैन” भन्ने सशक्त सन्देश प्रवाह गर्दै युवापुस्तालाई हरित क्रान्ति, दिगो विकास तथा वातावरणीय उत्तरदायित्वतर्फ अग्रसर हुन आव्हान गर्नुभयो।
कार्यक्रममा युनाइटेड हिमालयन आर्गनाइजेशनको उप अध्यक्ष सिद्धार्थ राई, सोनादा रेलवे स्टेशनका स्टेशन म्यानेजर आर आर चौधरी साथै विभिन्न सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, शैक्षिक तथा युवा क्षेत्रका प्रतिनिधिहरूको उल्लेखनीय उपस्थिति रहेको थियो। सम्पूर्ण अतिथिहरूले वृक्षारोपण, प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण नियन्त्रण, जलस्रोत संरक्षण, स्वच्छता अभियान तथा हरित वातावरण निर्माणको पक्षमा आफ्नो प्रतिबद्धता प्रकट गर्नुभयो।
कार्यक्रम अन्तर्गत स्वच्छता अभियान, वृक्षारोपण कार्यक्रम, वातावरणीय जनचेतना र्‍याली तथा युवाहरूलाई “प्रकृति बचाऔं, भविष्य जोगाऔं” भन्ने मूल मन्त्रसहित प्रेरणादायी सन्देश प्रदान गरिएको थियो। विशेष रूपमा हिमालय क्षेत्र, दार्जीलिङ पहाड, कालेबुङ, तराई तथा उत्तर–पूर्व भारतको प्राकृतिक सौन्दर्य आज जलवायु संकट, भू–स्खलन, जल अभाव तथा वातावरणीय क्षयको चपेटामा परेको सन्दर्भमा प्रकृतिको संरक्षण सम्पूर्ण मानव सभ्यताको साझा दायित्व भएको कुरामा जोड दिइयो।

17th State Athletic Meet 2026 Opens with Grand Ceremony, 435 Athletes Participate

The 17th State Level Athletics Meet 2026 commenced today at Khel Gaon, Resh*thang, with a grand inaugural ceremony attended by athletes, officials, coaches, and sports enthusiasts from across Sikkim.

The three-day championship was formally inaugurated by Rinzing Wangyal Chopel, Chairman of the Sikkim Sport Development Board, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event was also graced by Yangchen D. Tamang and Tenzing Loden Lepcha.

Organized by the Sikkim Athletic Association, the State Athletics Meet serves as the premier athletics championship in the state, providing a platform for athletes to compete in various track and field events while promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and excellence in athletics.

Following the ceremonial flag-off, competitions began across multiple disciplines, with participants representing different districts showcasing their talent and determination.

The championship will continue over the next two days, featuring a wide range of track and field events. The meet is expected to play a crucial role in identifying promising athletes for future state and national-level competitions while further strengthening the culture of athletics in Sikkim.

आज कोलकातामा दार्जीलिङ पहाड, तराई तथा डुवर्सको स्थायी राजनीतिक समाधानको निम्ति आह्वान गरिएको उच्चस्तरीय ऐतिहासिक बैठकप्रति हामी सम्पूर्ण युवावर्ग अत्यन्तै आशावादी तथा उत्साहित छौं। उक्त महत्वपूर्ण सभामा पश्चिम बङ्गाल सरकारका माननीय मुख्यमन्त्री, भारत सरकारद्वारा नियुक्त Interlocutor तथा पूर्व भारतीय सीमा सुरक्षा बलका महानिर्देशक माननीय पंकज कुमार सिंह जी, साथै दार्जीलिङका माननीय सांसद श्री राजु विष्ट ज्युको उपस्थिति र संलग्नताले सम्पूर्ण गोर्खा जातिलाई नयाँ आशा, विश्वास र राजनीतिक दिशाबोध प्रदान गरेको छ।

वर्षौंदेखि उपेक्षित, शोषित तथा अन्यायको पीडामा बाँचेको दार्जीलिङ पहाड, तराई र डुवर्सको माटोले अब ढिलो नगरी न्याय प्राप्त गर्नैपर्छ भन्ने हाम्रो दृढ अडान रहेको छ। विगतका राजनीतिक त्रुटि, स्वार्थपरक निर्णय तथा जातिको भावनामाथि खेलवाड गर्ने तत्वहरूलाई इतिहासको कालखण्डमा सीमित गर्दै अब नयाँ संकल्प, नवीन दृष्टिकोण तथा जातीय आत्मसम्मानको आधारमा उन्मुक्तिको मार्ग कोर्नु आजको अपरिहार्य आवश्यकता बनेको छ।

आजको बैठक केवल एउटा औपचारिक राजनीतिक छलफल मात्र नभई दार्जीलिङ पहाड, तराई तथा डुवर्सको भावी पुस्ताको अस्तित्व, सुरक्षा, पहिचान र संवैधानिक अधिकार सुनिश्चित गर्ने ऐतिहासिक मोड सावित हुने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ। अबको निर्णयले हाम्रो भूमि सुरक्षित, सम्मानित र अधिकारसम्पन्न भविष्यतर्फ अग्रसर हुन्छ कि पुनः अन्याय र उपेक्षाको अन्धकारमा धकेलिन्छ भन्ने कुराको निर्धारण गर्नेछ।

हामी स्पष्ट रूपमा भन्न चाहन्छौं— जबसम्म सिलिगुडीलाई समेटेर कुनै स्थायी तथा संवैधानिक राजनीतिक व्यवस्था निर्माण हुँदैन, तबसम्म सिलिगुडीलाई पृथक जिल्ला बनाउने कुनै पनि प्रयास गोर्खा जनभावनाविपरीत हुनेछ। सम्पूर्ण क्षेत्रको ऐतिहासिक, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक तथा भौगोलिक यथार्थलाई आत्मसात् गरेर मात्र स्थायी समाधान सम्भव छ।

साथै, गोर्खा जनताको आकांक्षा र आन्दोलनमाथि बारम्बार कुठाराघात गर्दै आएको असंवैधानिक तथा असफल संरचना जी.टी.ए. (GTA) लाई यथाशीघ्र खारेज गरिनुपर्छ। जी.टी.ए. को नाममा जनताको अधिकार, विकासको बजेट तथा पहाडको भविष्यलाई भ्रष्टाचारको दलदलमा धकेल्ने सम्पूर्ण भ्रष्टाचारी तत्वहरूमाथि कठोर कानुनी कारबाही गर्दै उनीहरूलाई जेल अर्थात् “मामा घर” पठाउने व्यवस्था राज्य तथा केन्द्र सरकारले तत्काल सुनिश्चित गर्नुपर्छ।

अब गोर्खा जाति सम्झौतामा होइन, सम्मानजनक संवैधानिक अधिकारमा विश्वास गर्दछ। हाम्रो आन्दोलन अब केवल नारामा सीमित रहने छैन, यो हाम्रो अस्तित्व, स्वाभिमान र भावी पुस्ताको सुरक्षित भविष्यको निम्ति निर्णायक संघर्षको रूपमा अघि बढ्नेछ।

Mountain Beast Gym Felicitates Medal-Winning Athletes for Outstanding Performance at State Championship

Mountain Beast Gym organized a felicitation programme to honour its athletes for their remarkable achievements at the 8th Sikkim State Strength Lifting and IBP Championship 2026, held at Mangan on May 23–24.

The programme was attended by Jeewan S***a (OSD) as the Chief Guest, along with CLC President Thakur Prasad Sharma, Youth Convenor Bhupal Pradhan, and members of the Youth Wing team.

The athletes honoured during the event included:

Bishal Rai – 2 Gold Medals, Senior IBP Champion of Champions (COC) Trophy winner, and Overall Highest Lifter Champion.

Bijay Rai – 2 Gold Medals, Junior Strength Lifting Champion of Champions (COC) Trophy winner, and Junior State Record Holder.

SKM Successfully Holds Coordination Meeting in Martam-Rumtek Constituency; Welcomes New Members and Highlights SIR Awareness

A coordination meeting of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) for the 24-Martam Rumtek constituency was successfully held at Rumtek today under the leadership of Sonam Tshering Venchungpa.

The meeting was attended by Nuk Tshering Bhutia, Chung Chung, Pawan Parsai, Chumila Bhutia, and Michung Bhutia, along with party frontliners, CLC/BLC members, and other party dignitaries.

Inspired by the vision of Prem Singh Tamang, discussions focused on the goal of building a “Sunaulo Ani Samriddha Sikkim” (Golden and Prosperous Sikkim) through inclusive growth and holistic development.

A key agenda of the meeting was to formally welcome leaders, dignitaries, and members of the public who joined the SKM family from the other political groups during the party’s Foundation Day celebration at Rangpo on February 4, 2026.

The meeting also emphasized awareness on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) , aimed at informing and empowering grassroots workers and the public.

CP Dhakal Urges Sincere SIR Process to Remove Illegal Voters and Ensure Clean Electoral Rolls

Former Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Tourism Secretary, and RTI Commissioner CP Dhakal stated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is the right tool to identify and remove illegal voters from the electoral roll. He emphasized that ensuring an accurate and clean voter list is not solely the responsibility of the government but of every citizen.

Dhakal appealed to election officials to carry out the SIR process with utmost sincerity, describing it as crucial to the future of Sikkim. He also noted that the exercise offers an opportunity to examine any abnormal increase in the number of electors. According to him, a clean and reliable electoral roll is the foundation of a strong democracy, and the quality of governance depends on the accuracy of the voter list.
