Sikkimese Educator Chogyal Bhutia Selected for MEXT Scholarship in Japan

September 9: Sikkimese educator Chogyal Bhutia, currently serving as a teacher at VidyaGyan School, Sitapur, has been selected as one of only six candidates from India for the prestigious MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship, a fully funded scholarship programme offered by the Government of Japan.

The 18-month programme, scheduled from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2028, will provide Bhutia with an opportunity to undertake specialised research and training in teacher education in Japan.

As part of the programme, Bhutia will conduct research on the topic, “Connecting Classroom Learning with Local Communities: A Study of Lower Secondary Education in Japan.” His study will examine how Japanese schools collaborate with local communities and explore educational practices that could potentially be relevant to the Indian education system.

Bhutia will be affiliated with the United Graduate School of Professional Development of Teachers, involving the University of Fukui, Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University, and Toyama University of International Studies.

A native of Namchi, Sikkim, Bhutia completed his undergraduate studies in Sikkim before pursuing his Master’s degree at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and a B.Ed. from the West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration (WBUTTEPA).

His selection for the MEXT Scholarship marks a significant international academic achievement for a Sikkimese educator. The opportunity will take him from Namchi to Japan for an 18-month programme focused on teacher training, educational research, and professional development.

Incident Involving Police Officer on Official Duty at Marchak, Ranipool

With reference to the incident that occurred at Marchak, Ranipool on 03.09.2026, Sikkim Police considers it necessary to place the factual position before the public.

On the said date, a team of Special Branch personnel was deployed on official duty in connection with a political joining programme being held at Marchak, near Ranipool. As part of the assigned duty, the police personnel were required to ascertain the nature of the programme, the gathering at the venue and other relevant information from a law-and-order and security perspective.

During the course of this duty, a Special Branch officer reported that, after entering the venue, he was identified as a police officer, obstructed in the discharge of his official duty, physically manhandled and intimidated by certain persons. He further alleged that he was surrounded by a group of persons, pulled by his collar, pushed and prevented from leaving the venue.

On receipt of the written complaint, Ranipool P.S. Case No. 26/2026 dated 03.09.2026 was immediately registered under Sections 131, 132, 121(1), 126(2), 351(2), 189(2) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and investigation was taken up forthwith.

The aforesaid provisions relate, inter alia, to assault/criminal force, voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and offences involving an unlawful assembly/common object. In particular, Sections 121(1) and 132 BNS specifically address acts committed against a public servant while discharging lawful official duties.

Following registration of the case, the persons concerned were detained/brought in for questioning and examined in connection with the incident. Necessary medical examination and other legal formalities were carried out. Statutory notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 have also been served, requiring cooperation with the investigation and compliance with the directions of the Investigating Officer.

The investigation is being pursued on priority. Statements are being recorded and relevant evidence is being collected, preserved and examined to establish the role and responsibility of all persons involved. Further legal action shall be taken strictly on the basis of evidence emerging during investigation.

Sikkim Police takes a serious view of any act which obstructs, intimidates or uses force against a police officer in the lawful discharge of official duties. Police personnel deployed for lawful intelligence, security and law-and-order duties must be allowed to perform their responsibilities without obstruction or intimidation. Any interference with such lawful discharge of duty will be dealt with firmly in accordance with law.

At the same time, the investigation shall remain fair, impartial, evidence-based and strictly in accordance with law. As the matter is under active investigation, details concerning evidence, witnesses and the specific role attributed to individual persons are not being disclosed at this stage.

नरबहादुर भण्डारी सरकारी महाविद्यालयमा ३५औँ नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवस पालन

गान्तोक, ३१ अगस्ट : नरबहादुर भण्डारी सरकारी महाविद्यालय, तादोङमा ३५औँ नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवस विविध कार्यक्रमका साथ पालन गरिएको छ। महाविद्यालयको वार्षिक गतिविधिअन्तर्गतको प्रमुख कार्यक्रमका रूपमा नेपाली विभागको आयोजनामा सम्पन्न कार्यक्रममा नेपाली भाषा, साहित्य तथा शिक्षाको विकाससँगै सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोग (UPSC) परीक्षामा नेपाली विषयको सम्भावना र तयारीका विविध पक्षमाथि विशेष परिचर्चा गरिएको थियो।

महाविद्यालयको प्रायोजनमा आयोजित कार्यक्रममा साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कारबाट सम्मानित वरिष्ठ साहित्यकार तथा सिक्किम रूपान्तरण संस्थानका उपाध्यक्ष सी पी भट्टराई मुख्य अतिथिका रूपमा उपस्थित थिए। कार्यक्रममा महाविद्यालयका प्राचार्य प्रो ड. देवव्रत पुरोहित, श्री पङ्कज थापा, श्री मुन्ना प्रधान, श्रीमती अञ्जना शर्मा, श्रीमती सुजाता पुरोहित तथा श्री शरद पौड्याल विशिष्ट अतिथिका रूपमा उपस्थित थिए।

कार्यक्रम शुभदीप प्रज्वलनबाट प्रारम्भ भएको थियो। नेपाली विभागका विभागाध्यक्ष ड. उदय छेत्रीले स्वागत मन्तव्य राख्दै कार्यक्रमको औचित्य र उद्देश्यबारे प्रकाश पारे। उनले नेपाली भाषा मान्यताको ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धिलाई स्मरण गर्दै भाषा संरक्षण, संवर्द्धन र प्रयोगको दायित्व वर्तमान पिँढ़ीले गम्भीरतापूर्वक ग्रहण गर्नुपर्ने बताए। विशेषतः विद्यार्थी तथा युवा पिँढ़ीमाझ नेपाली भाषाको महत्त्व, सम्भावना र प्रयोगको क्षेत्र विस्तार गर्नु कार्यक्रमको प्रमुख उद्देश्य रहेको उनले स्पष्ट पारे।
कार्यक्रमका मुख्य अतिथि सी पी भट्टराईले आफूलाई भव्य अभिनन्दन गरेकामा महाविद्यालय परिवारप्रति आभार व्यक्त गर्दै नेपाली भाषा तथा साहित्यको विकासका लागि युवा पिँढ़ीको सक्रिय सहभागिता आवश्यक रहेको बताए। उनले सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोगको परीक्षामा नेपाली विषय लिएर सहभागी हुन चाहने अभ्यार्थीहरूलाई आफूले सक्दो सहयोग गर्ने प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त गरे। साथै, ‘विकसित सिक्किम २०४७’को लक्ष्यअन्तर्गत सिक्किमबाट २५ जना आईएएस तथा आईपीएस अधिकारी उत्पादन गर्ने लक्ष्यतिर समेत सामूहिक रूपमा अघि बढ़्नुपर्ने धारणा व्यक्त गरे।

नेपाली भाषा मान्यताको ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि चर्चा गर्ने क्रममा भट्टराईले पूर्व मुख्यमन्त्री नरबहादुर भण्डारी तथा पूर्व सांसद दिलकुमारी भण्डारीको महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदानको स्मरण गरे। नेपाली भाषाले संवैधानिक मान्यता प्राप्त गरिसकेको वर्तमान अवस्थामा मान्यताको उपलब्धिमा मात्र सीमित नभई त्यससँग जोड़िएका दायित्वलाई समेत बुझेर भाषा, साहित्य र शिक्षाको क्षेत्रमा परिणाममुखी काम गर्नुपर्ने उनले बताए।
उनले परी प्रकाशनद्वारा प्रकाशित सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोगको नेपाली विषयसम्बन्धी मार्गदर्शिका पुस्तकको चर्चा र प्रयोगलाई अझ व्यापक बनाउनुपर्ने आवश्यकता औँल्याए। सिक्किम, दार्जिलिङ तथा अन्य स्थानका महाविद्यालय र विश्वविद्यालयहरूमा समेत नेपाली विषय र सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोगको परीक्षासम्बन्धी चर्चा–परिचर्चा तथा अभिमुखीकरण कार्यक्रम आयोजना गर्नुपर्ने उनको सुझाव थियो। धैर्य, विशुद्ध विचार र लक्ष्यकेन्द्री मानसिकताले सफलताको बाटो खोल्ने उल्लेख गर्दै उनले विद्यार्थीहरूलाई विभिन्न पक्षबाट सहयोग गर्न वर्तमान सिक्किम सरकार तथा मुख्यमन्त्री स्वयम् दत्तचित्त रहेको बताए।
कार्यक्रममा महाविद्यालयका प्राचार्य प्रो ड. देवव्रत पुरोहितद्वारा रचित अङ्ग्रेजी कविता सङ्ग्रह 'फर्स्ट लभ'-को विधिवत् विमोचनसमेत गरियो। लोकार्पित कविता सङ्ग्रहमाथि ड. हरजीत गोस्वामीले निरूपणात्मक टिप्पणी प्रस्तुत गरे। उनले सङ्ग्रहभित्र समावेश कविताहरू सामान्य मानविकीका दैनन्दिन विषयवस्तु तथा मानवीय अनुभूतिलाई आधार बनाएर सुललित रूपमा प्रस्तुत गरिएको बताए। कार्यक्रममा हिन्दी साहित्यकी वरिष्ठ कवयित्री श्रीमती सुजाता पुरोहितले आफ्नो सुन्दर हिन्दी कविता वाचन गरी उपस्थितलाई मन्त्रमुग्ध बनाइन्।

आफ्नो कविता सङ्ग्रहका सम्बन्धमा मन्तव्य राख्दै प्राचार्य प्रो ड. पुरोहितले सङ्ग्रहमा विद्यार्थीका विचार, भावना र अनुभूतिलाई अभिव्यक्ति दिने प्रयास गरिएको बताए। आफू विद्यार्थीको स्थानमा उभिएर कविता लेख्ने प्रयास गरेकाले कविताहरू सरल, सहज र सुबोध बनेको उनको भनाइ थियो। नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवसको सन्दर्भमा बोल्दै उनले कार्यक्रमका क्रममा उठेका विभिन्न विषय अत्यन्त महत्त्वपूर्ण रहेको उल्लेख गरे। सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोगलगायतका प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक परीक्षाका लागि आवश्यक कोचिङ तथा प्रशिक्षणका सम्बन्धमा सम्बन्धित निकायसँग महाविद्यालयका पक्षबाट आवश्यक पहल गर्ने प्रतिबद्धतासमेत उनले व्यक्त गरे।

कार्यक्रमको अर्को प्रमुख आकर्षणका रूपमा सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोग परीक्षा र नेपाली विषय विषयक परिचर्चा आयोजना गरिएको थियो। परिचर्चामा वरिष्ठ पत्रकार तथा साहित्यकार भीम राउत र प्रवीण खालिङ, कञ्चनजङ्घा राज्य विश्वविद्यालयका सहायक प्राध्यापकद्वय ड. सुचन प्रधान र ड. रतन रसाइली तथा युवा उद्यमी सुश्री प्रियदर्शनी निरौला सहभागी थिए। परिचर्चाको सहजीकरण ड. टेकबहादुर छेत्रीले गरेका थिए।
परिचर्चाका क्रममा प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक परीक्षाको तयारीमा समाचारपत्र, सामाजिक सञ्जाल तथा उच्च शिक्षा संस्थानहरूको भूमिकाबारे विस्तृत छलफल गरियो। परीक्षाको तयारीका प्रभावकारी तरिका, आवश्यक अध्ययन सामग्री तथा सहायक स्रोतको प्रयोग, समसामयिक विषयमा अद्यावधिक रहने अभ्यास र युवा पिँढ़ीमा प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक परीक्षासम्बन्धी सचेतना तथा सक्रियता अभिवृद्धिका विषयमा पनि सहभागीहरूले आफ्ना विचार प्रस्तुत गरे। विशेषतः सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोग तथा अन्य प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक परीक्षामा नेपाली विषय लिएर सहभागी हुने अभ्यार्थीहरूका लागि नरबहादुर भण्डारी सरकारी महाविद्यालयले आवश्यक कोचिङ तथा मार्गदर्शनको व्यवस्था गर्नुपर्ने विषय परिचर्चाको महत्त्वपूर्ण निष्कर्षका रूपमा अघि आएको थियो।
युवा उद्यमी श्री अभिमन्यु ढकालले स्रोतवक्ताका रूपमा आफ्नो मन्तव्य राख्दै प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक परीक्षाका लागि विषय छनोट गर्दा विशेष ध्यान दिनुपर्ने बताए। उनले सफलताका लागि निरन्तर लगनशीलता, समसामयिक सूचना तथा घटनाक्रमबारे नियमित रूपमा अद्यावधिक रहने बानी र प्रविधिको प्रभावकारी प्रयोग आवश्यक रहेको उल्लेख गरे। तयारी प्रक्रियालाई प्रविधिमैत्री बनाउँदै उपलब्ध डिजिटल स्रोत तथा सामग्रीको सदुपयोग गर्न उनले विद्यार्थीहरूलाई सुझाए।
कार्यक्रममा मुख्य अतिथि तथा अभिनन्दित व्यक्तित्व सी पी भट्टराईलाई उपस्थित विशिष्ट अतिथिहरू तथा कलेज परिवारका पक्षबाट पुष्पपत्रदल वृष्टिसहित दोसल्ला, महाविद्यालयको स्मृतिचिह्न तथा अभिनन्दन पत्रद्वारा सम्मान तथा अभिनन्दन गरियो। कार्यक्रममा सहभागी परिचर्चाका स्रोतवक्ताहरूलाई समेत महाविद्यालयका पक्षबाट स्मृतिचिह्न प्रदान गरी सम्मान गरिएको थियो।

कार्यक्रममा कञ्चनजङ्घा राज्य विश्वविद्यालय, बुर्तुक महाविद्यालयलगायतका शैक्षिक संस्थानका प्राध्यापकहरू तथा नरबहादुर भण्डारी सरकारी महाविद्यालयका प्राध्यापक, कर्मचारी र विद्यार्थीहरूको उल्लेखनीय उपस्थिति रहेको थियो। विद्यार्थीहरूको बाक्लो सहभागिताले कार्यक्रमलाई थप उत्साहपूर्ण र भव्य बनाएको थियो।
कार्यक्रमका क्रममा विद्यार्थीहरूले नेपाली संस्कृति र परम्परालाई झल्काउने सुन्दर लोकनृत्य तथा लोकगीत प्रस्तुत गरे। यसका साथै विद्यार्थीहरूले स्वरचित कविता वाचन गरी आफ्नो सिर्जनात्मक प्रतिभासमेत प्रस्तुत गरेका थिए। विविध सांस्कृतिक तथा साहित्यिक प्रस्तुतिले नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवसको कार्यक्रमलाई थप जीवन्त बनाएको थियो।
नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवसको ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व, नेपाली भाषा तथा साहित्यको वर्तमान अवस्था, युवा पिँढ़ीको दायित्व र सङ्घ लोकसेवा आयोगलगायतका प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक परीक्षामा नेपाली विषयको सम्भावनाबारे सार्थक विमर्श गर्दै कार्यक्रम सम्पन्न भएको थियो। कार्यक्रम सञ्चालिका ड. शारदा छेत्रीले धन्यवाद ज्ञापन तथा आभार व्यक्त गरेपछि सम्पूर्ण कार्यक्रम औपचारिक रूपमा समापन भयो।

Sikkim Sends Relief Team to Flood-Hit Nepal

Gangtok, August 31: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (P.S. Golay) on Monday flagged off the first humanitarian relief team from Ridge Park, Gangtok, to Nepal.

The team is carrying medicines, food and other essential relief materials for people affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.

The relief mission is part of the “Sikkim for Nepal” initiative, showing Sikkim’s support and solidarity with the people of Nepal during this difficult time.

The team will help provide much-needed assistance to flood-affected communities in Nepal.

Renuka Basnett Chettri Qualifies UGC-NET and North East SLET

West Sikkim, August 29: Renuka Basnett Chettri, daughter of Shri Birkha Bahadur Chettri of Yuksom, West Sikkim, has brought pride to her family and community by successfully qualifying for the UGC-NET examination with a good percentile and the North East SLET (State Level Eligibility Test).
Renuka has pursued her academic journey with dedication and perseverance.

She completed her Class 10 education from Yuksom Secondary School and Class 12 from Pelling Senior Secondary School. She went on to complete her undergraduate studies at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Tadong, followed by her Master’s and M.Phil. degrees from Sikkim Central University.

Miss Chhena Maya Bhujel Clears UGC-NET June 2026

Saturday, 29th August: Miss Chhena Maya Bhujel has successfully cleared the UGC-NET June 2026, bringing pride and joy to her family, community and the people of Soreng district.

Miss Bhujel is the daughter of Mr Chabi Lall Bhujel and Mrs Son Moti Bhujel, and is a resident of Salangdang, Sombaria, under Soreng district, Sikkim.
