The University Grants Commission (UGC) has named five private universities from Sikkim among 54 state private universities across India that have failed to comply with the mandatory disclosure requirements under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956.

According to the notice issued by UGC Secretary Prof. Manish R. Joshi, the universities have either not submitted the prescribed information to the Commission or failed to upload the Public Self-Disclosure details on their official websites, despite repeated reminders.

The Sikkim-based universities listed as defaulters are:
тАв Medhavi Skills University, Singtam, East Sikkim
тАв Sikkim Alpine University (formerly EIILM University), South Sikkim
тАв Sikkim Global Technical University, Namchi, South Sikkim
тАв Sikkim International University, Sribadam, West Sikkim
тАв Sikkim Skill University, Namthang, South Sikkim

The UGC guidelines issued in June 2024 require all higher education institutions to maintain functional websites, ensuring easy public access to institutional details without the need for registration or login. Universities are also required to provide links on their homepages for students and the general public to view the information.

The Commission has directed the defaulting universities, including those in Sikkim, to comply at the earliest, emphasizing that transparency and accountability are vital for maintaining credibility in higher education.
