PRESS RELEASE
14 AUGUST, 2025

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sikkim, vehemently condemns the horrific torture and caste-based remarks inflicted upon a student of Samdong Sanskrit College at his rented residence in Samdong, East Sikkim. A disturbing video circulating on social media today, exposes the gravity of this brutal and inhuman act perpetrated by anti-social elements, which is a gross violation of human dignity and fundamental rights.

We are appalled by the barbaric assault, reportedly involving physical violence and cigarette burns, such heinous acts are an affront to Sikkim’s cherished values of harmony, unity, and mutual respect among communities. The targeting of a young student with caste-based slurs and physical torture is utterly unacceptable and shakes the conscience of our society.

BJP Sikkim stands in solidarity with the victim and his family during this traumatic time. We demand that the Sikkim administration and law enforcement authorities take immediate and decisive action to ensure the harshest punishment for the perpetrators involved, leaving no room for impunity.

Dr. Indra Hang S***a, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, has submitted a request letter on behalf of the Hon’ble Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Shri M.N. Sherpa, to the Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, regarding the conduct of a Students’ Assembly at the Lok Sabha premises, New Delhi.

The request has been received with profound warmth, admiration, and encouragement by the Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, who has expressed a keen interest in attending the event, subject to his availability and schedule.

This initiative aligns with the vision and continuous efforts of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for the all-round development of students and the creation of meaningful opportunities for their growth and exposure.
The concept of a Students’ Assembly was first introduced in 2023 by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, offering students a unique platform to actively participate in and experience the legislative process in a simulated State Assembly setting. Following the success of the inaugural edition, the upcoming Students’ Assembly is now being planned at the national level, proposed to be hosted at the Lok Sabha premises in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Sikkim Students’ Union, New Delhi.

The proposed dates for the program are November 8–10, 2025.
This program aims to provide students with a practical, hands-on understanding of parliamentary procedures and policymaking mechanisms at the national level. It is envisioned as a powerful tool to empower students by enhancing their political awareness, nurturing leadership skills, and instilling a sense of civic responsibility. By participating in a forum that mirrors real legislative proceedings, students are encouraged to voice their ideas, engage in critical thinking, and take their first steps toward becoming informed and active citizens of the nation.

According to reports, the victim, a young student from Sirwani, was subjected to an inhumane physical attack and caste-based derogatory remarks by the accused, Aditya Khadka, who allegedly also burned the victim’s hand with a cigarette. Press Release

Sikkim Democratic Front Strongly Condemns Caste-Based Assault on Class 9 Student in East Sikkim.

The Sikkim Democratic Front expresses its deepest outrage and condemnation at the recent shocking incident in which a Class 9 student was allegedly assaulted, subjected to caste-based slurs and even burned with a cigarette by one Aditya Khadka. The accused is currently in police custody at Singtam Police Station.
Such an act is inhumane, criminal and a direct attack on the constitutional values of equality and dignity. It violates multiple provisions under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and the Indian Penal Code. This incident is not just an attack on an individual but a stain on the social harmony that Sikkim has long cherished.
We are equally concerned about credible reports that attempts are being made to suppress the spread of this news through political pressure from certain quarters. This is unacceptable and an insult to the principles of transparency and justice. No influence, intimidation or misuse of power should be allowed to derail the pursuit of truth in this matter.
The Sikkim Democratic Front demands:
Immediate and strict legal action against the accused under all relevant sections of the law, including the SC/ST Act.
Full protection and support to the victim and his family, including medical, psychological and legal assistance.
A fair, transparent and time-bound investigation to ensure there is no manipulation or suppression of evidence.

Our party will be closely monitoring every step of the investigation and will not hesitate to take necessary actions both legal and political if any injustice is done through suppression, influence or abuse of power.
Sikkim belongs to all communities equally and no one should live in fear because of their caste, identity or background. We call upon all citizens, civil society and youth of Sikkim to unite against caste-based discrimination and violence and to defend the dignity of every individual.

Press Release

Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Strongly Condemns Assault on a Child

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha expresses its unequivocal condemnation of the appalling assault on a Class 9 student of Samdong Sanskrit College, East Sikkim. This inhumane act has no place in our society and is a stain on the values of dignity, respect, and harmony that define our state.

Upon learning of the incident, SKM Party representatives immediately reached out to the Chairperson of the Sikkim State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SSCPCR) and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Singtam Police Station to gather firsthand information.

Preliminary accounts indicate that the young victim, a resident of Sirwani, was subjected to physical violence and caste-based abuse by the accused, resulting in serious physical injuries and deep psychological trauma. It has further been alleged that the perpetrator used a cigarette to burn the child’s hand, a cruel and degrading act that violates the very core of human decency.

Such barbaric behaviour is not only morally reprehensible but also a grave violation under Indian law, including provisions protecting children and prohibiting caste-based discrimination.
Sikkim has long been a symbol of peace and communal harmony, and such incidents threaten the very social fabric that binds our communities together. We have also noted with concern that several charges have been framed against the accused based on the detailed account of the young victim, and we expect these charges to be pursued with the full force of the law.

The SKM urges the Child Commission, law enforcement agencies, and all relevant authorities to ensure that this case is handled with urgency, transparency, and sensitivity. The investigation must be thorough, and the trial expedited, so that justice is neither delayed nor denied. The accused must face the strictest legal consequences to send a clear message that such acts will never be tolerated in our state.

At this critical hour, SKM stands firmly with the victim and their family. We will extend every possible support to ensure they receive the medical care, psychological counselling, and legal assistance they need.

This incident must serve as a wake-up call to society: violence, discrimination, and abuse against any child are crimes against humanity itself. We call on all citizens to reject prejudice in every form and to work together in building a safe, respectful, and inclusive Sikkim for our children.
