Even in the opposition, Pawan Chamling has been the recipient of many awards and honours. When SDF was in power for 25 years, the SKM party often accused SDF of buying these awards. However, honour cannot be purchased and perhaps these recognitions in the opposition are an answer.
The various awards and recognitions were given to him for his contributions to many fields - politics, music, literature, social justice, organic agriculture and community building.
- Speaker at COP14 United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought on 6th September 2019. Here, Pawan Chamling shared his experience as a policy maker in making Sikkim the first organic state in the world.
- Conferred the Kirati Yalamber Smriti Samman by Kirat Rai Yayokha on 17th Jan 2020 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
- Recognized by the Lyricist Association of Nepal in Kathmandu on 22nd Jan 2020 for his immense contribution to the field of Nepali music and literature.
- Felicitated by Nepal Pragya Pratisthan at Kathmandu on 16th Jan 2020 for his contributions to Nepali literature. Those present at the program were eminent members of the Nepali literature world.
- Felicitated by Geetkar Sangh, Nepal on 22nd Jan 2020 for his immense contribution to the field of Nepali music and literature.
- Guest of Honour at the 3rd Global Organic Expo held at IARI, PUSA, New Delhi from 26-28 May 2022. He was honoured as the “True Father of the Organic State of Sikkim”
- Invited as Chief Guest to the 5th international creative literary conference 2022 in USA, organized by Global Bhutanese Literary Organization (GBLO). Harrisburg, USA. Felicitated by GBLO on 30th July 2022 for his contributions to Nepali Literature.
- Conferred the Dr Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award on 7th July 2022 at Nepal Pragya Pratisthan, Kathmandu. Nepal’s Education minister Devendra Poudyal was the chief guest for the award function.
- Felicitation by Bharatiya Gorkha Manch, Siliguri, on 14th July 2022 for being honoured with the prestigious Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award.
- Felicitated by Parijaat Smriti Kendra on 10 September 2022 through the hands of Sukanya Waiba, Parijaat’ sister.
