PRESS RELEASE | Citizen Action Party – Sikkim | 25 February 2026.
Gangtok, Sikkim — On the gracious invitation of the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur ji, a delegation of Citizen Action Party – Sikkim (CAP-S) paid a courtesy visit to Lok Bhawan, Gangtok and held a meaningful and constructive interaction with Hon’ble Governor.
The delegation led by Party President Shri Ganesh K Rai and comprised Vice Presidents Shri Jorbu Tsh Lepcha, Shri Karma Tsh Bhutia, Shri Bhushan Adhikari, Smt. Sumati Chettri, Shri Pema Gyalpo Bhutia, and Shri Lalit Gurung.
During the meeting, the delegation engaged in wide-ranging discussions on important issues concerning the welfare, democratic rights, and holistic development of the people of Sikkim. Matters relating to good governance, transparency, youth empowerment, sustainable development, preservation of Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage, and safeguarding constitutional and socio-economic rights were deliberated upon in detail.
As the principal opposition political party in the State, Citizen Action Party – Sikkim reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to function strictly in accordance with the Constitution of India and to uphold constitutional values at the highest levels. The Party emphasized that the Constitution remains the guiding principle of Indian democracy and must always be upheld above all institutions and political considerations. CAP-S reiterated that its political conduct and public engagement shall continue to be guided by constitutional morality, democratic principles, and the rule of law.
The Party also noted that in the past, such formal meetings with the Hon’ble Governor could not be convened owing to scheduling constraints. However, the Office of the Governor has now assured that meetings will be held at regular intervals, ensuring continued dialogue and constructive engagement on matters concerning the State and its people. The Party welcomed this assurance as a positive and healthy democratic development.
During the interaction, the Office of the Governor highlighted several major initiatives and works undertaken under the leadership of Hon’ble Governor Shri O.P Mathur ji that have largely benefited the people of Sikkim. The delegation sincerely appreciated these efforts and acknowledged the proactive role played by the Hon’ble Governor in promoting Sikkim at the North-East and national levels, thereby enhancing the State’s image and representation across the country.
The Party further appreciated the Hon’ble Governor’s active engagement with Sikkim’s diverse cultures and festivals, which have been widely welcomed by the people. His consistent participation in cultural events and community celebrations has strengthened bonds with the larger Sikkimese community and reflects a pro-people approach under his leadership. Such inclusive initiatives have contributed positively toward fostering unity, harmony, and pride in Sikkim’s unique identity.
Citizen Action Party – Sikkim also placed on record its appreciation for the renaming of Raj Bhawan as Lok Bhawan, a symbolic and people-centric initiative that reflects accessibility, inclusivity, and commitment toward the welfare of the people of Sikkim.
The Party expresses its sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor Shri O.P Mathur ji for the invitation, the cordial interaction, and the assurance of continued engagement in the larger interest of Sikkim.
